Obituary

Willie Preston Jackson entered into eternal rest on September 27, 2023, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Virginia surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 11, 1947, to Clarence and Ida Mae Jackson in Dahlgren, Virginia. He graduated in 1965 from Ralph Bunche High School in King George, Virginia.

Willie worked as a federal government employee for the Department of Air Force as a Computer Technician at the Pentagon, Arlington Virginia, and postal worker in Washington DC for 32 years. He retired from government service and subsequently worked for Capitol One for over ten years before completely retiring. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Post 314 for ten years.

Willie was a compassionate and loving person. He would always put other needs and wants ahead of his own. He was of quick wit and always had an answer for you. His favorite past time was doing crossword puzzles, and he enjoyed bowling many years before being restricted to his wheelchair.

Willie recently said to Phyllis that he had been wheelchair bound for years but he never lost faith in God. He learned to use it to allow him to stay independent. The wheelchair never deterred or stopped him from doing the things he desired to do or enjoyed doing. He went anywhere he needed. He loved visiting his family and friends. Willie was usually one of the first to arrive at his church on Sundays at Restoration Worship Center, to roll himself in the sanctuary to praise the Lord.

Willie accepted his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 8, 1979 at his present Pastor, Rev. Perry Scranage Jr's home. Willie always said he had two birthdays, he was born into the world on December 11, 1947, and was born again when he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior on December 8, 1979. He said it was easy for him to go through his sickness because he accepted the Lord a long time ago. One of his favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm. After a long tireless and long-suffering illness, Willie finally got tired and said he was at peace and was ready to go home with Jesus. It was no doubt at all he knew where he was going and he said many times, God had been good to him and he was ready to take his eternal rest with the Lord. He fought a good fight and was a strong soldier for the Lord!

Willie married Phyllis on October 7, 1978, and years later included their only child, Petra. Petra was the love of his life.

Willie is preceded in death by his mother, Ida Mae Jackson, and brother George Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his sweet and loving memories to his wife Phyllis; daughter, Petra; his father Clarence P. Jackson, Fairfax Virginia. Four sisters, Carolyn Milton, Shiela
