Obituary

Virgie Leola Childs , 90, was born on April 4, 1935, in Stafford, Virginia. She peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at home.

Virgie received her early education in Stafford County, VA and graduated from Walker Grant High School in Fredericksburg. Virgie accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member at Bethlehem Baptist Church where she diligently served as the Head of the Hospitality Committee for over 30 years. In 2012, she moved her membership to New Destiny Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County under the leadership of Rev. Joel Nelson. She joined the Moses Generation Choir and was the Mother of the Church there for many years. In 2022, she moved her membership to Macedonia Baptist Church in Caroline County, under the leadership of Rev. Carroll Jackson. She served as a Deaconess there and was recently recognized as the Mother of the Church.

Virgie will be remembered for her caring spirit and always wanting to help anyone that she could. She loved to cook! Not only for her family, but would make sweet potato pies, potato salad, and punch bowl cakes for other people at a moment's notice. She was also known for going in her wallet and passing out "a little change" to anyone she came in contact with, and she made sure it was folded up really small, so she could put it in your hand. You could also rest assured, whenever you asked her how she was doing, she would always say, "I'm pressing on."

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Martha Brown Greenhow, her husband of 61 years, Louis Childs Sr., and her son, Christopher Childs.

Virgie leaves to cherish her memories five children, Sandra Broaddus (Robert), Veronica Childs, Louis Childs Jr., Vera Fox (Jarod), Lisa Owens (Jerry) of Spotsylvania, VA; one daughter in law, Vanessa Childs of Finksburg, MD; one sister, Blanche Jones, of Spotsylvania, VA; one brother, Frank Greenhow, of Fredericksburg, VA; nine grandchildren, Robert III, Robyn (Andre), Alex (Carly), Brittany (Tavon), India, Ciera, Jada, Maya, and Wayne; seven great-grandchildren, Allana, Nalani, Aiyana, Miyana, Hudson, Haven, and Aaliyah; nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.
