Obituary

Vernon Berlyn Davenport, Jr. , 85, of Fredericksburg, VA, departed this life on November 23, 2025.

When we look back on the life of Vernon Berlyn Davenport, Jr., we remember a man who lived fully, laughed loudly, loved deeply, and talked endlessly — and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Vernon spent his days doing the things that brought him joy. This included casting a fishing line in the water with the sun on his shoulders, cruising on the boat like he owned the whole river, and getting lost in a good book — turning pages like the story was happening right in front of him. He loved settling into westerns, judge shows, and watching Maury like it was the championship game. If you ever tried to call him during those moments, you already knew — he wasn't rushing off that phone for nothing or nobody.

Of course, one thing about Vernon — he was going to sell a car! He was a master at it. Slick with those words, sharp with those suits, and smooth with that smile, he could talk you right into a car you never even knew you wanted. People would walk onto the lot just to "look around," and next thing you know, they were driving off in something new, wondering how it even happened! He sold every kind of car there is, but Cadillac was his kingdom. In the auto world, he was the Mayor of the car industry, beloved and respected because everybody knew one thing — Vernon could sell salt to a slug and make it feel proud about the purchase.

He was a man who valued connection. Whether he was sharing one of his famously questionable stories (that he would absolutely defend until his last breath), or spending hours on the phone catching up, he made everyone feel seen, heard, and important. Vernon didn't just talk — he gave voice to laughter, to memories, and to life itself.

He found joy in watching the world through the people he loved — scrolling Facebook posts, checking on everybody's updates, cheering accomplishments, and offering commentary like he was live-reporting the evening news. He was present, he was involved, and he stayed connected in the way only he could.

His presence was steady. His impact was wide. His love was loud. And his spirit was unforgettable.
