Staci
Pullam
d. Jun 2, 2023
Our lives were blessed beyond measure when James Pullam and Jacquelyn Alexander Pullam welcomed a beautiful daughter named Staci Terrell Pullam. Staci was the middle child between her brothers Dion Alexander Pullam and Jared Che Pullam. Staci arrived on February 15, 1961, in Ft. Knox, Kentucky where her father was stationed at the US Army Base. Staci and her siblings were lovingly cared for by their parents and maternal grandmother Rosabelle Alexander. The family spent much of the children's formative years at their grandmother's home in Fredericksburg, Virginia and collectively they demonstrated the examples of kindness, generosity, caring, and service that Staci inculcated and exhibited throughout her lifetime.
It was under both her mother and grandmother's tutelage and example that Staci developed a love and talent for cooking, and learning. She excelled at two of her many culinary specialties – deviled eggs and fried oysters!! Staci also witnessed their strong Christian faith that led her to join and be baptized by Reverend Lawrence Davies at the Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site) in Fredericksburg. She maintained her church membership and participated in various activities throughout her life. Staci was a member of the Willing Workers Club, and the Walker Auxiliary Club at the time of her peaceful passing on June 2, 2023, after an illness. She was lovingly surrounded by her brothers and friends.
Staci graduated from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg in 1979 and she attended Virginia State College in Petersburg, Virginia. Throughout her life, Staci was inquisitive and a lifelong learner. Her intellectual curiosity was enhanced through her love of reading. She valued and treasured books and was an avid reader. Her choices of literature crossed every genre, such was her appreciation for the value of words. She could be found on many evenings and on Saturdays at the Rappahannock Regional Library; she was the first to purchase books when they were on sale and routinely left with boxes of used books which she shared with friends.
Upon the death of her parents and her grandmother, Staci became a surrogate mother to Jasmine Robinson, whom her family had raised since Jasmine's birth. Staci continued to nurture, support and care for Jasmine into adulthood. The two were devoted to each other.
Staci's employment included working at the University of Mary Washington in the Food Service Department and for many years at the Quantico Marine Base Dining Hall. She also was a call receiver for Bumbrey's Taxi Cab. As one who readily cared for seniors, including family members, and individuals needing home nursing care, Staci later studied and passed the exams to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She worked at Hughes Home Assisted Living and Carriage Hill Nursing Facility; she served in private duty capacities and attended to clients with special needs until her passing. Staci was socially conscious, and was a member of the Fredericksburg NAACP, encouraging citizens to register and vote. She supported Sickle Cell and other charity fundraising walks and commemorations.
A lover of travel, Staci visited her cousin U.S. Ambassador (ret.) Pamela Bridgewater in Ghana, Jamaica, and The Bahamas, making lifelong friends and learning about new cultures. She traveled throughout Virginia and the US with friends; Staci visited family in Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky, New York, Michigan and other states.
Staci was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jacquelyn Pullam; her grandparents, Rosabelle, and Henry Alexander; special cousin, Mary "IB" Bridgewater; and her godson, Michael Coleman.
She leaves family and faithful friends to remember her, including her brothers, Dion Pullam and Jared Pullam; surrogate daughter, Jasmine Robinson; nephew, Caden Alexander Pullam; niece, Ezra Rose Pullam; cousins, Anna McGuire, Ambassador (ret.) Pamela Bridgewater (Rev. A. Russell Awkard), Tara Owings, Melvin Owings, Kevin Collins, Larry Quincy, and Vickie Callahan; goddaughter, Marchelle Williams; godson, Sean Dandridge; special friend, Sherman Washington; close friends, including Savonette "Sister" Dandridge, Monique Dandridge, Theresa (Reese) Coleman, Lorraine Holmes, Konnard Williams, Louise White, Aisha White, Xavier Richardson, Victor Quaye, and countless others.
