Obituary

Sharon Dee Coleman , the third child of the late Joseph and Bernice Coleman, was born on September 2, 1954. She passed away on October 31, 2023, at Mary Washington Hospital at the age of 69.

Sharon was born with a hole in her heart and an unfortunate accident during the operation left her with brain damage. However, Sharon did not allow her condition to diminish her love for life. She loved animals and her family, but most importantly, Sharon loved Jesus Christ. She accepted Him as her Lord and Savior at an early age and recently rededicated her life to Him in a second baptismal.

Sharon was educated in Spotsylvania County Public Schools, attending John J. Wright Consolidated School and Spotsylvania Senior High School. Upon finishing her education, she went to work for Goodwill Industries, for over forty years, until her retirement in 2017.

Always active, Sharon began attending the Breezewood Opportunity Center in 2017. Through the day support program, she enjoyed such activities as bowling, cooking, going to the movies, and volunteering at the SPCA.

Sharon gained more independence when she moved into Good Neighbor's Waterford Residential Home in Spotsylvania.

In addition to the aforementioned activities, Sharon enjoyed shopping, making arts-and-crafts, and listening to music. However, her greatest passion was dancing. Nearly every song on the radio was "her song," and as soon as she heard it, Sharon would begin dancing.

Besides dancing, Sharon also enjoyed flirting with men. In one of her final acts, Sharon boldly flirted with the nurse that wheeled her into surgery.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joseph Lewis "Bobby" Coleman, Jr.; her sister-in-law, Sandra Elliot Coleman; and her sister, Catherine Coleman.

She leaves behind her sister, Catherine Joann (James) Dixon, of Ruther Glen; her brother, Charles Addison "Napoo" (Kenneath) Coleman, Sr., of Spotsylvania; her sister, Denise Al-Mustafa, of Lakeland, Florida, Erin Lawson, of New York; three nieces, three nephews, three great-nieces, two great-nephews, six great-great-nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives.

A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 10:00 AM followed by a homegoing service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Glen Haven Memory Gardens.

Aside from sending flowers, there are many ways to honor Sharon's memory. You may make a donation in her name to your local SPCA, Goodwill Industries, P.E.O.P.L.E, LLC, or Good Neighbor.
