Samuel
Jackson
d. Jun 8, 2025
On Sunday June 8, 2025, at Mary Washington Hospital God called his servant Samuel Edward Jackson home from labor to reward.
Samuel (aka "Sam", "Ed", "Jack", "Grand Daddy", "Uncle Ed") was the fourth son of the late Samuel and Blanche Tyler Jackson born April 30, 1928, in Stafford County, Virginia.
Samuel grew up playing on the banks of the Potomac River. He loved nature – fishing and hunting. He attended school in Stafford, VA and often spoke about having to walk 10 miles to school. Samuel served his country in the Air Force.
As a young man Samuel joined Mt Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Nelson Smith. He grew up in the church serving faithfully in many auxilaries. Samuel also loved reading his bible and he took part in the Sunday School Class every Sunday. He was also a great servant to his community until his health began to fail him.
Samuel liked playing games, cards, horseshoes, and telling jokes. He loved watching sports: baseball, his beloved Washington Nationals, Washington Commanders, and he loved watching his westerns.
On August 27, 1950, Samuel and Dorothy Sylestine Hamn were united in marriage. To this union six children were born, Temple D. Jackson (Anne), Valerie J. Johnson (John deceased), Reginia Watts (Kendall), Karen Kitchens (Bruce), Edward Lotherio Jackson and Baby Jackson (deceased). In 1967 he became guardian to his niece and nephew Connie (deceased) and Elfego Hamn.
Samuel retired from the Department of Defense after 39 years, and he also retired from A&P grocery. In retirement he served his community, worked in his garden, joined the Historical Society of Stafford County, and looked after his grandchildren when called upon.
Samuel also leaves to mourn six grandchildren, Bryant, Kimberly, Amanda, John, Bruce, Jr. and Tyler; eleven great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; brother, Carlton (Rebecca) Jackson; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a wealth of friends.
WHAT A LONG BEAUTIFUL LIFE he lived.
A viewing will be held at United Faith Ministries, 150 Susa Drive, Stafford Virginia, on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will be held at Quantico National Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the American Cancer Society .
