Ruth Alberta Collins , affectionately known as Alberta, transitioned on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the age of 74. She was born June 11, 1950, to the late Mary Elizabeth Hopkins and Milton Poole, in Fredericksburg, VA.

Ruth received her education in Fredericksburg City Schools. She was employed by the Rappahannock Area YMCA until her retirement. She loved rooting for the Dallas Cowboys on Sundays. She also enjoyed sitting on her porch listening to some good music, and loved visiting the local store to get her favorite snack, a honey bun. She was delightful to be with and did not hesitate to show you some tough love when she needed to.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, James Rudolph Hopkins.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memories to her loving husband of 24 years, James V. Collins Sr., daughters, LaSonya Ferguson-Hamock (Arregus), Shenina Ferguson, and Crystal Ferguson; two stepsons, James Collins Jr., and Michael Norbrey (Erika); one sister, Barbara M. Poole; grandchildren, Kierra, Mykel, Mariah, Jameik, Ja'Niyah, Ja'Siah, and Madisyn; step grandchildren, Shamika, Joshua, Issac, Brianna, Treyvon, and Zayden; one great grandchild, Kiomi; one niece, Angela Smith; two nephews, Wendell Wright (Paula), and Gary Poole (Angie); a special cousin, Doris A. Dupree; several in-laws, cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 12:30 PM.
