Roy Korth,
Sr.
d. Sep 16, 2024
Our loved one, Roy Watson Korth, Sr. , died at his residence in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in the early hours of Monday, September 16, 2024.
Roy was born on October 17, 1929, to Herbert and Lauretta Korth, in Brooklyn, New York. Roy's family relocated to Woodford, Virginia, where Roy spent his boyhood and young adulthood. Roy enlisted in the Air Force in 1947, at the age of eighteen. He met his beloved wife, Marjorie Ronall in Washington, D.C., and they were married in December of 1951. Roy and Marjorie raised three children in Springfield, Virginia, and also in Panama, where Roy was stationed at Albrook Air Force Base.
Upon Roy's retirement from military service, he went to work for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., in the Planning and Activity sector. Roy very much enjoyed his employment with the police department, and was a source of pride for him. He served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 694, in Springfield, where he was scoutmaster of his sons.
Roy was an avid golfer, and volunteered as a course marshall for many events in the northern Virginia area. He combined his passion for golf with his favorite charity, Heroes of Washington, D.C., marshaling benefit tournaments for Hero's.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 67 years, Marjorie; daughter, Jane Carson; siblings, Herbert Korth and Lura Gillis.
Roy is survived by sons, Roy W. Korth, Jr. (Melody) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Ronald A. Korth (Carol), of Stafford, Virginia. He is also survived by grandchildren, Sharisa Pettersson, Glen Carson, Rachel Burks (Garret), Daniel Fols (Jessica), and Anna Rall (Andrew). Roy was Papa to Vale, Sawyer, James, Eira, Carson, and Noah, great-grandchildren who were beloved. Also surviving are special nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at Aquia Episcopal Church, 2938 Richmond Hwy, Stafford, VA 22554, on Friday, October 25, 2024, 11:00 AM. The interment will follow in the church cemetery immediately at the conclusion of the service. A reception will be offered in the church's Great Hall after the interment.
Roy's family would like to thank A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, Inc. for their care. Also, the family is thanking the residents and staff of Harmony at Falls Run, At Home Care and Hospice (thank you, Veronica, Tina, Emily and all the angels who cared for Dad Korth).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Heros Inc. of Washington D.C.
