Obituary

Roberta Evelyn Rollins , 86, peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, July 31, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, hard work, and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and community.

Born on May 13, 1940, Roberta lived a life defined by service to others. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness and generous spirit touched everyone she met.

Roberta dedicated more than 25 years of her life to serving others through her work with as the head baker in the dining hall at Mary Washington College. She took great pride in her work, and many enjoyed the delicious meals and baked goods she lovingly prepared over the years, especially the many wedding cakes she baked and designed.  Her strong work ethic, warm smile, and caring nature earned the respect and admiration of coworkers and friends alike.

A woman of unwavering faith, Roberta was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. As an adult she was a member of Little Mine Road Baptist Church and Third Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served as head of the kitchen committee.  Her faith guided her throughout her life and was reflected in the kindness, grace, and compassion she extended to everyone she encountered.

Roberta found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time outdoors tending to her garden and nurturing her beautiful flowers. She was happiest when baking for family and friends, filling her home with delicious aromas and creating cherished memories around the table. One of her greatest passions was caring for children. She lovingly babysat countless children over the years, embracing each one as if they were her own. Her nurturing spirit, patience, and unconditional love earned her the affection of many who considered her a second mother or grandmother.

When it was time to relax, there was one thing everyone knew they could find Roberta doing—watching Tyler Perry's Madea movies. They were her absolute favorite and seemed to always be on replay. No matter how many times she watched them, Madea's humor never failed to make her laugh. Her family will forever smile when they think of her enjoying those movies, laughing out loud, and inviting anyone nearby to sit and watch with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Abraham and Louise Parker; her husbands, Joseph Grant and Henry Rollins; her sisters, Mary Frye, Oser Turner, and Rosie Callahan; and her precious great-granddaughter, Mollyanna Jiggetts.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: son, Joseph Parker (Vanessa); daughters, Tammy Parker-Hamn (Fred), Lorraine Ross (Ronald), Teresa Grant, and Teresita Grant, a sister, Gloria Baker (Walter Lee, Sr.) and two brothers, Odell Parker, Sr. (Barbara), and Darious Parker (Myrtle) and brother-in law Walter Callahan.

Roberta also leaves behind grandchildren, Marcus Turner, Davase Grant "Winky", Tiesha Johnson (Jonah), Melanie Hamn, Dominic Turner, Derric Turner (Keke), Shantay Grant, JoJo Parker (Vannitty), Patrice Parker, and Kesha Grant.  She also leaves a special God daughter, Sharon Hayden, and a special God granddaughter, Briana Hayden. Roberta also leaves behind great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, lifelong friends, and the many children whose lives she lovingly helped shape.

The family wishes to recognize her devoted grandson, Quintin Grant, whose unwavering love, compassion, and selfless care allowed Roberta to remain surrounded by family until her passing. His dedication, patience, and sacrifice were a true reflection of the love they shared, and his care brought her comfort, dignity, and peace during her final chapter of life.

Roberta will be remembered for her selfless heart, gentle spirit, unwavering strength, and unconditional love. She never hesitated to care for those in need, whether through a warm meal, a comforting embrace, or simply opening her home and heart. She found beauty in flowers, joy in baking, peace in her faith, laughter in Madea, and her greatest happiness in the people she loved.

Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we rejoice in knowing that her life was one well lived and that her love will continue to live on through every life she touched. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, laughter, and faith will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord." — Matthew 25:23
