Reverend Andrew
Hogan, Jr.
d. Jul 25, 2022
39-year Telecom Specialist for Department Information Systems Agency (DISA) and retired Army veteran, Reverend Andrew L. Hogan, Jr. never knew a stranger. Instead, everyone he encountered was a friend he hadn't met yet. Rev. Hogan passed away peacefully on July 25, 2022, surrounded by music, prayer and loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy.
Rev. Hogan was born to Rev. Andrew Louis Hogan and Lucile Smith. Following his father's marriage to Bernice Smith, Rev. Hogan was nurtured and raised alongside his sister, Bernice Hogan Hall. Rev. Hogan graduated from Laney High School, and soon after, joined the US Army. It was during this time, he met and married his first wife, Amanda Cavel and from this union they had two sons, Andrew L. Hogan, III (deceased) and Adrian Leonard Hogan. In 1977, Rev. Hogan joined St. Paul Church in District Heights, Md, where he would later be ordained into ministry. While sitting in the pulpit one Sunday morning, Rev. Hogan asked Rev. Dr. Robert Williams, Sr., Pastor of St. Paul, about a "fox" he saw in the congregation. Thus, in 1980 Rev. Hogan married his partner in life and ministry of 41 years, Rev. Dr. Charlene Hogan. Together, they expanded their family to include Andrea Alicia Hogan.
In 1982, Rev. Hogan retired as a Master Sergeant after 25 years of faithful service and sacrifice in the US Army. He stepped from one type of service into another. Seamlessly, he went from protecting and serving his country, to protecting and serving his community, when in 1985, he founded, and pastored, Stafford Community Baptist Church, in Stafford, VA, alongside his wife. In 1983, Rev. Hogan began his 39-year career with DISA as a Telecom Specialist.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Pastor Hogan. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and preparing for and sharing the Word of God with his community. On a Sunday afternoon, Pastor Hogan could be found reading the comic section of the Free Lance Star. One of his favorite songs was Great is Thy Faithfulness. Pastor Hogan will lovingly be remembered by all that knew him for his unquestionable love for Jesus Christ, love for his family and community. It wasn't uncommon to receive a phone call from him early in the morning to say a prayer over friends during their commute to work. He embodied values which today appear so out of fashion that they seem almost quaint: His decency, his honesty, his complete disinterest in ego and materialism, and his stoic resolve in the face of adversity to fulfill his duty to God and his family.
Pastor Hogan was preceded in death by his first wife, Amanda Cavel and his son, Andrew L. Hogan, III. He is survived by his wife, Rev. Dr. Charlene Hogan, son, Adrian Leonard Hogan, daughter, Rev. Andrea Alicia Hogan, and sister, Bernice Hogan Hall.
