Mildred
Woods
d. Aug 11, 2025
Mrs. Mildred Ann Woods, beloved mother, sister, and friend, entered eternal rest on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 79 years old.
Born on October 15, 1945, in Spotsylvania, Virginia, Mildred was the daughter of the late Donald Harris, Sr. and Lucille Coleman Harris. She was educated in the schools of Spotsylvania County, where she developed the strong work ethic and caring nature that defined her life.
Mildred was united in marriage to the late Raymond Douglas Woods, and together they shared a loving union blessed with one son, Rodney C. Woods, who was the joy of their lives. Though a small family, their home was always filled with warmth and kindness. Mildred and Raymond also opened their hearts to Natalie Highsmith, who came to live with them as an infant and remained a cherished part of their lives until she was six years old. Their love and care for Natalie reflected the generosity and nurturing spirit that defined them both.
For more than 30 years, Mildred worked with dedication and excellence at Marriott International. Following her retirement, she pursued her love for beauty and service by opening her own hairstyling business. She later worked as an aid for the Prince George's County Public Schools, where she was known for her patience and generosity.
A faithful member of Sylvannah Baptist Church, Mildred lived her Christian faith daily. She was admired for her strength of character, her love for cooking, and her gift for making everyone feel welcome. Among family and friends, she was especially known for her famous potato salad, a dish that became a cherished tradition at gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, and her brother, Roy Bernard Harris. Mildred leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted son, Rodney C. Woods; her loving brother, Donald Harris, Jr., longtime family friend, Lydia Nieves; extended family, and friends whose lives she touched deeply.
