On November 5, 2022, Reverend Mary Elizabeth Hall answered God's sweet whisper and peacefully entered eternal rest. As her granddaughter Aisha said, "she is now with her Main Man Jesus Christ". Rev. Mary Elizabeth Hall was born to the late Add and Sarah (Burruss) Armstead on February 17, 1928, in Spotsylvania, Virginia. She was one of fifteen siblings. Rev. Hall known to many as Pastor Hall, Mother Hall, Minister Hall, Evangelist Hall, Prayer Warrior, Aunt Mary, and Auntie but best known as a powerful Woman of God. Her vibrant personality left a lasting impression on all who had the opportunity to meet her. She was an inspiration to many. Her spirit of encouragement, exhortation, love, support, and contagious smile will be truly missed.

She attended Spotsylvania County public schools for a short period of time before transitioning to Fredericksburg City schools at the age of 13, where she attended Walker Grant. Rev. Hall took classes at Brown Bible School, attended several conferences, seminars, received several certificates, and awards for all her work on the battlefield for the Lord. In 1936 Rev. Hall joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, Virginia. She then went on to become licensed as a missionary in 1971. During her years at Mt. Zion, she served as a preaching daughter, president of the Missionary Ministry and Senior Choir.

She was also a Sunday School teacher, leader of the Prayer Warriors Ministry and Mothers Ministry. Also, a member of Prayer Shawl Ministry and Mt. Zion Senior Choir. Rev. Hall was licensed in 1987 and ordained in 1991 by Bishop Dorothy Noland. She was installed in 1994 as pastor of Evangelistic Baptist Church where she served for seven years. At Evangelistic Baptist Church she served with the Prison Ministry at the Rappahannock Jail. In 1996 she was the first black woman pastor in Fredericksburg to air on WFVA 1230 AM on Sundays – program title "Time for The Word of God". She baptized candidates in the Rappahannock River and officiated many couples entering the union of holy matrimony. Rev. Hall did extensive travel carrying God's word.

Whether at home, in the streets, in the grocery stores, on the corners, or on the phone, God's word was carried wherever she went. One of her favorite scriptures was Isaiah 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because
the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; …" All of that may sound good, but the greatest thing that ever happened to her was when the Lord came into her life, and she became a child of God. He gave her a degree above all degrees, a BAC (Born Again Christian).

She is preceded in death by Arthur Wood and Clifford Hall.

Rev. Hall leaves to mourn her two wonderful daughters, Hazel Moss of Washington, DC, and Monique Edwards (Brian) of Fredericksburg VA; spiritual daughter, Angie Vick of Raleigh, NC; one granddaughter, Aisha Winfield (Ron) of Philadelphia, PA; two grandsons, Gregory Edwards and Antonio Edwards of Fredericksburg VA; spiritual grandson, Rakeem Vick of Raleigh, NC; two great grandchildren, Ayana Winfield and Kingston Edwards. She leaves to mourn one sister, Bishop Dorothy Noland of Fayetteville, NC and two goddaughters Pandora Robinson of Jamaica, NY and Vikki Lewis of Fredericksburg, VA.

We thank God for the life, love, and legacy of Rev. Mary Hall.
