Margaret
Broughton
d. Sep 16, 2025
Margaret Lee Broughton was born in Orange County VA on the 16th of September 1940 to Bessie L. Poindexter and Edward L. Jones. Margaret was educated in the Philadelphia school system and graduated from Roxborough High School in 1958.
Her first job was as a bookkeeper for a large Philadelphia based dry cleaner. Margaret later moved to Washington DC in 1972 to work as an Executive Secretary for PA Senator William H. Grey III and later worked for the American Diabetes Association as a Senior Executive Administrator. She lived and worked for another 16 years in Silver Spring MD and retired in 2014.
During the Fall of 2017 she met her future husband (Bill) at an Olive Garden restaurant. They had not seen each other for nearly 60 years. This luncheon was the beginning of a 14th month courtship. She attended church services with Bill at Sylvannah Baptist Church where he proposed to her; and, where Margaret would later become a member of the Sylvannah Baptist Church and join the Missionary Team. On November 14, 2018 they were married by Reverend Dennis A. Woodard in his church study with the First Lady, Mrs. Woodard standing in as a witness.
Margaret and Bill liked to travel, with a shared passion for road trips. She would pack what was needed and off they would go! Margaret was also proud to be the wife of a U.S. Marine and wore t-shirts and hoodies that let you know it!
Margaret went home to be with Jesus at the Falls Run Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Stafford, VA on the September 15, 2025 (the day before her 85th birthday).
Margaret leaves to cherish, her husband, Bill (Bubby); her son, Thomas; her grandson, Darvel; her brother, Paul; her sister, Patricia; her sister-in-law, Mary; her godchildren, Paul and Bessie; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; an extensive network of friends to include her dear and special friend, Jeanette.
A memorial service will be held at Sylvannah Baptist Church, 8400 Courthouse Road, Spotsylvania, VA 22551, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
