Lucy
Davis
d. Dec 25, 2022
Lucy "Jean" Davis departed this life on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at Berea Health and Rehab in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She was born to the late Lucy and Bennie Carter of Spotsylvania, Virginia and was educated in the Spotsylvania County Public Schools.
Jean was a devoted wife, an encouraging mother, the greatest "Nana", a loving sister and a friend to all. She loved her daughters and enjoyed their annual girls trip vacations, shopping, talking, dancing and outings. She was full of life, full of energy and had an infectious smile. She was extremely generous and always willing to help others. Everywhere she went, she made a friend.
Jean accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined First New Hope Baptist Church in Partlow, Virginia. She was a devoted Christian and she loved the Lord. Until her illness, she took pride in her roles at First New Hope Baptist Church as Deaconess, a member of the Willing Workers Club, a member of the usher board, a member of the women's and combined choirs and Sunday school teacher. She also enjoyed visiting and assisting at other churches.
Jean had several jobs throughout her life, but cherished her career as a para-educator teaching children in the Head Start Program in the Fredericksburg City School system and Spotsylvania County Public School system. It was often that kids would recognize "Mrs. Davis" years after being in her class and greeted her with hugs. Jean loved collecting and over the years acquired a collection of dolls, cans, Christmas trees, and teapots.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Carl W. Davis; two siblings, Charles Carter, and Justine Gipson.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, LaTanya Jones (Christopher), Angela Heider (Anthony), and Erica Parker (Richard); three sisters, Barbara Herndon (Robert), Doris Robinson (Roy), and Theresa Carter (Robert); two brothers, Jesse Carter (Cora), and Leon Carter (Mary); two sisters-in-law, Perlean Medlock, and Loretta Davis; a brother-in-law, Rudolph Williams; six grandchildren, Christopher "CJ" Jones, Anthony "Maurice" Layne, Kevon Jones, ZaKiyyah "Kiyyah" Parker, Zaryah Parker, and ZaMihrah "Miah" Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow the service at Branch Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
