Obituary

On March 23, 1932, the world was blessed in a way that would change many people's lives. On that day, Lillie Mae Banks , known to family and friends as "Fever," "NaNu," and "LileMae," was born to Jim Daniels and Lena Hopkins. Lillie Mae was reared in Caroline County and attended school there. She entered into eternal rest at Mary Washington Hospital on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. This date happens to be the same day that her oldest son, Lenroy Banks, who preceded her in death, was born. Lillie Mae was blessed to live 91 years, having been ill for only a short time during her amazing life!

Lille Mae's faith had a profound impact on her family. She accepted Christ at a young age as she attended the Beulah Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, Virginia. Her mother suddenly passed when she was 12 years old, and Lillie Mae became one of the primary caregivers for her younger siblings. Her mothering instinct was evident in how she cared for her brothers and sisters during those difficult times.

On March 21, 1959, she married Leroy Banks of Spotsylvania, Virginia, and to this union, four girls and three boys were born. Leroy and Lillie Mae built a home on Cedon Road and began to raise their family. They were married for 54 years until Leroy entered eternal rest on May 11, 2013.

Words cannot adequately describe how incredible Lillie Mae was and what she meant to so many. She was an incredible daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cousin. She was the undoubted rock of her family! She was the steady guiding force and the wing beneath the wings of her children and grandchildren. Lillie Mae loved her family more than life itself. Her family was her world. She was such a remarkable person and leader, that her family never quite imagined life without her! The blessed thing about Lillie Mae was that she carried herself with such class and style. She was not loud nor judgmental, but she led quietly by example.

Lille Mae was a career homemaker, which allowed her to impact the lives of many children in the community. She was a mother to so many including nieces, nephews, and friends of her children and grandchildren. Lillie Mae Banks became everyone's mother and grandmother by the way she lived and loved! She loved to watch the following television shows: In the Heat of the Night, Walker: Texas Ranger, Blue Bloods, and Family Feud with Steve Harvey.

An incredible void now rests in the hearts of all those who loved and had an opportunity to experience Lillie Mae's gentle and generous personality. She could make anyone laugh anytime, she loved to smile, and she loved to see her family and friends happy. The family is eternally grateful to this woman of God for allowing God to use her to be a blessing to this world! Rest on Lillie Mae Banks, as your Savior Christ bids you well done, well done, thy good and faithful servant.

Lille Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Banks, son Lenroy Banks, grandson Wendell Lamont Banks, granddaughter Devany Tompkins, brothers, Alvin Smith, Robert Lee Smith, Bernard Lee Brown, Joseph Brown, Jr, and Clarence E. Smith, sisters, Ethel Hopkins, Annabelle Bynum, and Audrey Lee Banks.

She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Olivia Jones (Pete) of Spotsylvania County, Joyce M. Banks of Ladysmith, Carolyn D. Banks of Charlottesville, Barbara M. Johnson (Sidney) of Ladysmith; two sons, Harry Banks of Ladysmith and Lloyd Wendell Banks of Caroline County; one sister, Ruth Wiley (Wendell) of Washington, D.C., a special niece who was like a daughter, Betty Moore, grandchildren Peggy Brown Clarke, Kenneth Brown, Charmin Brown, Petrise Brown, Chennika Brown, Chonelle Brown, Anthony Brown, George C.
