Leroy
Salley
d. Apr 5, 2026
On Sunday, April 5, 2026, LeRoy Salley slipped peacefully into eternal rest at home with his loving wife, Debra, and devoted son, Marcus, by his side.
Known as "Roy" to most and "Pop Roy" to family, he was born on August 1, 1959, to the late Marion Clay Salley and the late Dorothy Thomas Gordon. He was the second of four children.
Roy graduated from Orangeburg-Wilkerson High School in Orangeburg, S.C. in 1978. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Navy.
Just before his first overseas deployment, he married his high school sweetheart, Debra. On October 4th, Debra and Roy were blessed with a baby boy, Marcus. They affectionately called him "God's present," as he was born on Debra's birthday.
His Naval career spanned over 20 years of service, allowing him to travel the world and experience all that life had to offer. In the U.S. Navy, he was an enlisted YN (Yeoman), earning honors such as Good Conduct Awards, Joint Service Awards and Navy commendation medals, Naval achievement medals and letters of commendation. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy while maintaining a Top-Secret Clearance. After his Naval career, he applied those skills as a Logistics Specialist in Quantico, Virginia.
In his youth, Roy had a passion for bowling and later found enjoyment visiting Charles Town Races & Slots, where he liked trying his luck on the slot machines. His family will always remember, however, his true mastery of the grill, especially when it came to quality barbecue. Roy also attended Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site) in Fredericksburg, VA, where he was baptized under Rev. Anthony Parrish.
Preceding him in death were his siblings, Michael Salley & Gregory Gordon.
Roy is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debra Bailey Salley; his son, Marcus LaRoy Salley of Fredericksburg, VA; one sister, Debra Haigler of Clinton, MD; one uncle, Harold Thomas and two aunts, Alice Ann Thomas and Gladys Thomas, all of Orangeburg, SC; mother-in-law, Jeanette Bailey of Orangeburg, SC; sister-in-laws, Nicole (Corey) Mitchell of Atlanta, GA; Barbara Bailey of NY, NY; brother-in-law, Melvin (Mattie) Bailey of Orangeburg, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, friends and neighbors.
A viewing will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site), 525 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg, VA, 22401, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 9:30 AM followed by Celebration of Life at 10:30 AM.
