Obituary

Mr. Kenneth James Hubbard (affectionately known as Kenny) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, went home to be with His Lord and Savior on the morning of November 3, 2022. A loving father and friend to many, he had the personality and natural charisma to make friends regardless of the situation.

Kenny was born October 13, 1954, in Brockton, Massachusetts to a strong woman named Julia Anne Hubbard. Sadly, his mother passed when he was only 13. He was then raised by his Godparents, Louise, and Rufus Gibbs, Jr. in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Kenny excelled academically while at Bridgewater-Raynham High School, so much so, that he would receive a full scholarship to attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMASS), as a pre-med major.

In 1974, Kenny met and married Leonora Jean Cardoza (who preceded him in death). They were blessed with a baby girl, Andrea. Later, he married Cynthia Woods and to this union, three sons, Westley, Julian, and Ashton were born.

Kenny eventually joined the United States Army where he was stationed at the 46th Combat Support Hospital (Ortho Tech School) located in Fort Devens, MA, as a Combat Medic / Orthopedic Technologist. He continued his career in the military where he specialized in teaching Orthopedic. He was in charge of training future ortho techs, soldiers, doctors, and surgeons in the art of Orthopedics. His motto was " you break it, we fix it, you lose it, we make it". Kenny was assigned to Walter Reed Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. where he would come back as a civilian government employee, ultimately ascending to Senior Instructor Walter Reed Medical Hospital.

Kenny's military service would lead him and his young family to travel abroad, namely, Augsburg, W. Germany. Kenny would serve as the Chief Consultant of Orthopedics and the EDDAC while stationed in Germany, where he provided support to seven clinics in Bavaria and four NATO countries. After finishing his tour in Germany, Kenny was stationed in Virginia serving at Fort Belvoir MEDDAC Dewitt Army Hospital as an Orthopedic Technician and Senior instructor for the Navy Corpsman from Quantico Marine Base, as well as Walter Reed.

After an honorable discharge from military service, Kenny settled in Virginia. He held numerous positions in the private sector from Walter Reed to Kaiser Permanente, Carney Hospital, Milton Hospital in Mass, and the Doctors Hospital in Arlington, Virginia. He later became an entrepreneur when he launched his own company, called Orthopedic Casting and Splinting Educators, L.L.C, specializing in teaching the art of Casting and splinting. First Responders, OR Techs, ER Techs, Orthopedic Techs, and Physicians piled into cramped auditoriums to hear Kenny speak, as he was widely considered a Master at his art. Kenny was so good at his job that he was dubbed by many of the physicians and his peers as the "Plaster Master". He took great pride in his work and eventually retired in 2018 only acting as a consultant.

Not a religious person, Kenny always believed there was a God but was a bit apprehensive. However, on December 27, 2021, after years of his daughter, Andrea ministering to him about the greatness of God and the gift of eternal life, Kenny confessed Jesus as his Lord and Savior!

Kenny enjoyed boxing and held a championship boxing belt for the United States Army. He loved to cook, he adored spending quality time with his family, and friends. His laughter was palpable and his humor infectious.

Kenny's memory will forever live on through his four children, Andrea Peoples Williams (Abdul), Kenneth Westley Hubbard (Maria), Julian Jamaal Hubbard (Trina), and Walter Ashton Hubbard; twelve adored grandchildren, Tiany Vicente, Lyla Hubbard, Javier Hubbard, Trenton Peoples, Antonio Hubbard, Aryanna Hubbard, Trevor Peoples, Azaria Hubbard, Ashton Kyrie Hubbard, Amirah Hubbard, Mateo Hubbard, and Ariese Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Friday, November 11, 2022, at 3:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM. The interment will be held privately.
