Juanita Rebecca McNeil , better known as "Sister" or "Aunt Sister", was born on February 2, 1924, in Spotsylvania, Virginia to the late James Lewis Terrell and Rebecca Gordon Terrell. She passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Louisa Health and Rehabilitation Center, Louisa, Virginia.
She united with Branch Fork Baptist Church at an early age and remained a member until her death. She received her elementary and high school education here in the Spotsylvania Country Public Schools. After high school, she attended Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA.
After her attendance at Saint Paul, she relocated to Washington, DC where she met and married the late Alton McNeil. She returned to Spotsylvania in 1973 and established a home which was fondly referred to as "Green Acres".
Her employment took her to various locations in the Washington, DC and Maryland areas. She retired from the federal government after working as a Laboratory Assistant at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, MD. During her time there, she met and worked with many well-known and prominent scientists.
While in Spotsylvania, she helped establish a community social organization called Just-A-Mere Club. This club provided social activities for the local and surrounding communities and enjoyable activities for the young to attend.
She loved hunting season. It provided her the opportunity to provide lunch for members of The Massaponax Hunt Club, which also included her husband, brother, and some of her very close friends.
She was a devoted wife and loved her nieces and nephews and treated them as if they were her own children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton McNeil, mother and father, James and Rebecca Terrell, brother and sister-in-law Hollis and Clarice Terrell; brother Maurice Terrell; brother and sister-in-law Harweda and Juanita Terrell; and brother James (Plunk) Terrell. Also preceding her in death were nephews William Terrell and James Terrell and great nephew Julian Roberson.
She is survived by one sister-in law, Ruby Terrell (James, deceased) of Fredericksburg, VA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
