Joyce
Webster
d. Mar 15, 2025
Affectionally know as "Sally Pockets or Pockets" to family and friends.
A Time to Be Born
Joyce Mae Snyder was born September 19, 1939, to the late Walter and Lorraine Snyder. Reared by her grandparents, the late Remus and Senolia Boxley. These saged Christians instilled many moral and Christian values that became part of her life's journey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Lawrence W. Webster, Sr., her son Lawrence W (Lance) Webster, Jr., and a sister, the late Gloria Jean Snyder.
A Time to Live
She attended public schools in Prince William County and graduated from Manassas Regional High School, Manassa, VA, Atlantic Business College, Washington, D.C. and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor's Center For Lifelong Learning and Leadership at the Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA.
On January 2, 1950, she received the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior.
As a young Christian woman, she became a faithful and dedicated member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Occoquan, VA. She was dependable, meticulous and took great pride in whatever she put her hand to do. An example of Hebrew 6:10 states: "God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown Him as you have helped His People." She was a member of the following organizations within her church; Senior Choir, Annie B. Rose Missionaries, Ushers Board, Frut of the Spirit Women's Fellowship, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and leader, Mother's Board, Willing Workers, Christian Education Board and Church Historian. She was the recipient of the Eagle Award for Dedicated and Faithful Service to Ebenezer Baptist Church. Along with Rev. James P. Russell and others she was one of the organizers of A.C.T.S and a dedicated worker with Christian Woman United of Prince William County. She taught arts and crafts at The Church of the Brothern, Woodbridge, VA and the Senior Citizen Nutrition program of Prince William County at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Woodbridge, VA.
Playing softball in the early years was very exciting. As a member of the Swabbies Women's Softball Team of Woodbridge, VA she played center field and was given the nickname "Duke Snyder" after the famous Brooklyn Doger baseball player for her many home runs and catching anything in center field. She was also an active member of the Ebenezer volleyball league and the bowling league.
On May 13, 1962, Joyce married her next breath, the love of her life, Lawrence Webster. They created many happy memories from hunting with her own gun to fishing (she used shrimp instead of worms). Just being together and riding on Lawrence's Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle. But her greatest joy was when God blessed them with three beautiful sons Lance (deceased), Scott and Brandon. To keep the boys active and happy that meant they would all have to be active. She planned many programs, put on plays, and even made costumes. Her three sons, Lance, Brandon and Scotty made the set decorations and participated in all of her events at church. She loved her boys and was a Boy Scoutt Den Mother, 4H leader, band booster and classroom mother.
After the death of Lawrence Sr. her three sons (which she called her three husbands) and their families were the light in her life. They surrounded her with love and many fun filled years. Crab and Pockets had an incredibly strong and beautiful life together and we all had a chance to learn from the best. We thank God for her earthly life and that we all got to be a part of it. We will celebrate the memories of her laughter, her voice, her family humor, her spunkiness, and most of all her smile that would light up any room. She was always there for all of the family to listen, console, encourage, and to love unconditionally, always. Never too busy for anyone.
A Time to Die
On March 15, 2025, Pockets' final season came to a close. She leaves to cherish her life's teachings and memories; two sons Scott (Faye) Webster, Brandon (Melissa) Webster along with six granddaughters Lauren Webster, Tierra Webster, Olivia Webster, Courtney Webster, Emily Webster and Sherril Webster, two grandsons Joshua Webster and Justin Webster, four great grandchildren, three sisters Mary A. Webster, Sharon McDowell, Lisa Quinn, two brothers Walther T (Edith) Snyder and David W. Snyder, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends who were close to her heart. Over the years, very special families were placed in her life by God and became honorary sons and daughters; Art and Mary Worley, Al and Ella Fahie, Andy and Randy Manderson, Norma Jean Harris, Dottie Stewart, Cliff Edwards, Elaine Scott and post office daughter Kathy and Lee Bennett.
Her favorite scripture was Psalms 121 – "I will look to the hills from whence cometh my help" and Pockets always said all of her help came from the Lord.
A viewing will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 13020 Telegraph Road, Woodbridge, VA 22192. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery, 12735 Vantage View Lane, Lake Ridge, VA 22192.
Pockets, now we will say to you what you and Crab always said to each other instead of goodnight or goodbye, I love you and see you in the morning. We love you pockets, see you in the morning.
