Obituary

Joseph Lewis Williams, Jr. , Jr, 74 of Spotsylvania, Virginia departed this life on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Mary Washington Hospital. He was affectionately known as Junior or Joe. Joseph was born on November 30, 1947, to Joseph and Viola Williams.

Joseph attended Jenny Deane High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. On March 27, 1968, he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.

He was married to the late Francine Williams and from that union four children were born, Cynthia, Joseph III, Vincent, and Evette.

On November 19, 1988, Joseph married Hope R. Williams. They blended their families to include Hope's four children, Erica, Andrea, Jacqueline, and Tanya. Joseph never separated any of the children and was a great and loving father to all eight. He had no problem telling anyone that he had eight children and that he loved them all equally. So that meant we all received the same discipline and the LONG two-to-three-hour lectures.

Joseph worked for 28 long years with Virginia Power until his health forced him to retire.

Joseph had a passion for the outside. He loved gardening and raising his animals. He had the gift of doing things with his hands and could fix whatever needed to be fixed around the house. Joseph loved to sing and cook. He would often prepare meals for his children. Joseph was a hard worker and would help anyone that he could. Joseph loved his family and was a family man. He loved spending time in the home with the family.

Joseph joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Occoquan, Virginia in 1996 and was later baptized together with his wife Hope. Joseph was a faithful and committed member of the Robert Pop Middleton Male Chorus until his health failed.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph, and Viola; two sisters, Blanche Vines, and Maryland King; and one daughter, Jacqueline McCord.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, who was his best friend and sole caregiver, Hope Williams; seven children, Cynthia Hampton(David), Erica Linton, Joseph Williams III (Paula), Andrea Boone (Richard), Vincent Williams (Gretchen), Evette Lawrence, and Tanya Heath (Jeffrey); his only brother Earl Williams (Connie); two sister in laws, Gloria Shepherd (Douglas) and Linda Ferguson (Clinton); two brother in laws, Otha Vines and Douglas King, son in law, Vincent McCord; seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, a close friend, Johnny Bailey, who visited him often; and host of nieces nephews, cousins, family and friends.
