Joseph Robert Carter , 89, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, peacefully returned to his heavenly home on December 17, 2022. Joseph was fondly known as Bobby, Bob or Joe. Joseph was educated in the Princeton, New Jersey School System and went on to work in various positions in the area. Joseph honored God in his work and was very generous in his giving. Joseph retired from Princeton University, after 30 plus years of service which was his pride and joy.
Joseph Carter married the love of his life, Ann who preceded him in death in 2002. Joseph and Ann were married for 42 years and shared a life that exemplified God's love and the spirit of Christ.
In addition to his wife, Joseph was predeceased by his two sisters, Carrie Lee Brooks, and Irene Carter; and two brothers, Boyd Carter, and Reginald Carter.
Joseph was a follower of Christ at an early age and was an active member at the Solid Rock Church of God in Hopewell, New Jersey. He then moved on to become a founding member, Deacon, and Chairman of the Trustee Board of the Grace Cathedral Church in Trenton, New Jersey where he served for over 25 years.
After his retirement Joseph moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia where he found his roots at Mount Hope Baptist Church. He was active in the men's "Generation of Hope" choir, and senior club, "The Golden Flyers". Joseph loved his church and church family dearly and was always dressed to the nines. Joseph enjoyed serving God and working in various ministries in the church.
Joseph's memory will be cherished and forever remembered by his brother, John Albert; his two sisters-in-law, Angela, and Luvenia; goddaughters, Maureen Carter, Brenda Walker, and Tonya Mullen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church members, and friends.
Joseph will be remembered by his joyful spirit, infectious laugh, great sense of style, and loving nature. Most memorable, he was known for his dedication to serving the Lord. As he takes his place among the angels, Joseph will be sorrowfully missed by all.
