Obituary

John S. Wolfrey was born on March 25, 1961, and passed away unexpectedly on February 21, 2025, at the age of 63 in his home in Spotsylvania, VA.

John spent his life dedicated to his wife Catherine Wolfrey of 50 years. His love also extended to his many family members and friends. John would give the shirt off his back if anyone needed it. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time and helping all those he loved. John's favorite times were those he spent at family gatherings and going on beach vacations.  His grandchildren brought him happiness that couldn't be described in words. All you had to do was see John's face light up when his grandchildren were around him.

John was a truck driver for many years. His true passion was drag racing. John and his best friend, Tony Jones and his nephew Kenny Ferguson, would go and race anybody, anywhere and anytime – because that is what he loved to do. Anyone who was fortunate to attend these races saw firsthand the sparkle and joy John had at each and every race.

John was known as THE LEGEND because his spirit touched the lives of so many that knew him. Everything he did in his life was done with unselfish love, sincerity and from his heart. Being known as THE LEGEND is the absolute best way to describe him and how John spent his life.

John was adored by his family. His children and grandchildren would all gather for many holidays and family celebrations. The love that started with John and Catherine was instilled and spread into the generations that followed. His entire family always knew they were loved.

John was preceded in death by his devoted parents Lester Fleming Wolfrey and Joan Brooks, grandson TyJohn Wolfrey, brother-in-law Robert Cotton and sister-in-law Blanche Wolfrey.

John is survived by his wife Catherine Wolfrey; his daughters, Renee Minor (Tony), Rachel Wolfrey (Emmitt) and Roshelle Carter (Sterling); his son, John Wolfrey Jr.; his grandchildren, Makenzie, Jalen, Maison, Malaki and Tyanna; brothers, Ronald Wolfrey (Lesa), Shawn Wolfrey (Rusty); and sister, Patricia Cotton; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
