Obituary

John A. Jackson , 66, of Spotsylvania, VA, was born in Lexington, Kentucky on June 1, 1956, to the late, Ollie Gibson Jackson and Lillian Taylor (Jackson).  On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, his spirit moved on to be with God.

As a young boy, he was baptized at Greater Liberty Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky.  Graduating from Henry Clay High School, he made the decision to join Army where he served his country for 21 years.

After his retirement in 1998 from the Army, John continued in the workforce as a government contractor where he utilized his technological skills as an Instructor, System Administrator and System Engineer.  When he wasn't working, you could find him passing the time by with his puzzles (Mahjong, Sudoku, Jigsaw), watching his Marital Art or Old Country Western flicks and/or listening to some tunes while bobbing his head to the beat.

He was survived by his wife, Shirrel Holmes, married on September 19, 1981, in Green Pond, South Carolina.  To that union, two children were born, Desiree Jackson, and Marcus Jackson.  Prior to their marriage John fathered three children, Deshaunda Smothers, Antonio Jackson, and Myron Jackson. He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. The love of his siblings, Mary Elizabeth Brown, Ollie Jackson, Joan Jackson, Leon Jackson, and Yvonne Jackson was cherished with protection, and warmth.  That love flourished through the hearts of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces, grandnephews, great nieces, great nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.
