Joanne
Temoney
d. Feb 11, 2022
Joanne Dixon Temoney was born to Nelson and Margaret Wormley Dixon on January 9, 1954. Joanne attended the Fredericksburg City School System and graduated from James Monroe High School in the class of 1972.
Joanne went to Fredericksburg Secretarial school where she received numerous awards for her quick learning and abilities for being a top notch secretary. Joanne moved to Richmond, VA where she worked as a secretary for VCU's Art Department. Part of her responsibilities there included greeting of guest and entertainers, such as Patti Labelle, the Blue-Belles and Marvin Gaye.
Joanne's heart desire was, being with her husband Robert, to continuously pray for her son, Gary, especially when he was in the military and looking forward to seeing her grandson, Amir, who was her joy. She loved knowing family history, dates and phone numbers, she loved to keep in touch with family members and friends. Joanne would call and check on you in a heartbeat. She loved going to bingo on Thursday nights, which is also the cousin's prayer line night which she never wanted to miss. She would call in to the prayer line and if she happened to be at bingo that night, she would tell us that she needed to pray first because she had to get back to her bingo cards.
Joanne had a heart of gold and a great since of humor, she just wanted her family to be together and to love one another. She attended church regularly with her sister Paulette on their Sunday's via face time and she enjoyed hearing God's Word preached. She craved God's Word and learning what thus says the Lord.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Yvonne.
Joanne leaves behind to cherish her memories, her husband of 36 years, Robert Temoney; son, Gary Temoney; grandson, Amir Temoney; sisters, Laverne (Frank) Barber of Powhatan, VA and Paulette (Mike) Foster of Laurel, MD; nieces, Ternechue Dixon of Fredericksburg, VA, and Ashley Dixon of Accokeek, MD; great niece, Mackenzie Harris of Accokee, MD; uncle, Reverend Dr. Charles Wormley, Sr. (Patricia); aunts, Cora Wormley of Decatur, GA and Jean Dixon of Fredericksburg, VA; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 10:00 AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Joanne's grandson, Amir Temoney's college fund. Donations may be submitted via mail to Amir Temoney, 4708 Woods Edge Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
