James Rowser Lucas

January 13, 1931 – May 2, 2022

James Rowser Lucas passed away peacefully at his home in Fredericksburg, VA, on May 2, 2022.

James attended Walker Grant High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Howard University. He was a retired post office supervisor. James was also a poet with works in the Negro Digest, published by Broadside Press.

He was a lifetime member of the N.A.A.C.P., Walker Grant Alumni, M.L. King Mini-Park Foundation, V.S.Q.'s and 20 Gentlemen social clubs. He was co-chairman of the Shiloh Baptist Church Old Site Wellness Center.

He was married to Althea Ford Lucas who passed away in 2016.

James is survived by his children, Cassandra, Kurt and Gail; grandchildren; Thor and Cochise; great grandchildren, Eliza and Primrose; and a host of other relatives.

A viewing will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church Old Site, 801 Sophia Street, Fredericksburg, VA, 22401, on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
