Obituary

James Anderson Jones , 83, of Clinton, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, in his home.  James was born on January 1, 1940, to George T. Jones Sr. and Elizabeth (Coleman) Jones in the family home on Slab Town Road, Spotsylvania County, Virginia.

The tenth child and baby of the family, James started his education at Summit School under the leadership of Mrs. Elendor Lewis and later attended John J. Wright Consolidated School. After high school he joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam. It was during this time he met the love of his life, Ann Ruth Wilson. James and Ann married on April 25, 1961 and made their home in Fredericksburg but later moved to Spotsylvania County near the family home place. James and Ann moved to Maryland later in their marriage where he worked as a heating and air conditioning specialist.

James loved horse racing and was exceptionally good at picking winners. After one big win, James financed the connection of running water and an indoor bathroom to his parents' home.

Always a caring man and loving uncle, James walked his niece Margaret down the aisle at her wedding after the death of her father, his brother Edward.

With the loss of his beloved Ann after fifty-three years of marriage James carried on her tradition of connecting with family by phone on each holiday. You could always depend on getting his call on Christmas. A tradition he continued this past Christmas.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; brothers, Edward Jones, Russell Jones, and George Jones, Jr.; his sisters, Emma Jane Hilliard, May Jones, Louise Jordan, and Bessie Feaster; his parents, George and Elizabeth Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memories his brother, Melton Jones; sister, Lillian Manuel; his brother-in-law, John Wilson; two special nieces, Margaret Venzon, and Evelyn Robinson; special nephew, Chris Manuel; other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of other relatives.
