James Armstead,
Jr.
d. Jul 29, 2025
James (Louie) Armstead, Jr. was born on September 18, 1948, in Hampton, Virginia, the beloved only child of the late James Armstead, Sr. and Georgia Williams. He passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, at his home in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
James was lovingly raised in Fredericksburg by his grandparents, Beverly and Gertrude Armstead, whom he deeply adored. He attended Walker-Grant Elementary and Walker-Grant High School, graduating in the Class of 1967.
Shortly after graduation, James enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served with distinction for four years and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Initially deployed to Vietnam, he was reassigned to Korea after just five days due to his status as an only child. He completed the remainder of his military service in Korea.
Following his honorable service, James returned home and worked for the Sylvania Plant in Fredericksburg and later with McLane, Inc. for approximately ten years. He then began a long and dedicated career with the U.S. Government at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in McLean, Virginia. During his 29+ years there, James traveled extensively and took great pride in his work.
A quiet and reserved man by nature, James valued his solitude but held deep affection for his extended family. He especially cherished his enduring friendships with Roscoe Edwards and Dana Wilson, the latter of whom recently passed. His bond with both men brought him much joy over the years.
James was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He leaves behind his loving cousins, Margo Randolph and Andre Randolph, along with a host of relatives and friends who will remember him fondly and honor his memory.
