Herbert
Banks
d. Jun 3, 2026
Herbert Daniel Banks "Danny" passed on June 3, 2026, at Mary Washington Hospital. He lived life to the fullest. He was the fourth child of Charles F. Banks and Jerrylean M. Taliferro Banks. He was born on Christmas Day, but his birth was recorded on December 29, 1944. He moved to Freehold, New Jersey when he was 4 years old to be raised by his uncle Oscar Toliver.
After graduating from Freehold High School, he later returned to Virginia. His first job was working as a masonry laborer, which lasted all three days because when one of the bricklayers didn't show up for work, guess what, he was on the wall laying bricks. He said the skill just came easily to him. He became a master chimney builder and corner man. He then started his own company a few years later and worked until his health failed. Although he was a double amputee, you could still find him mowing the lawn, driving, and dancing.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life three children, Rodney Oneal Banks of Culpeper, VA, Herbert D. Banks II of Culpeper, VA. and Kimberly Breeden (Warren) of Culpeper, VA. He is survived by his two siblings, Rubie Mae Campbell and Eliza Banks (Jacqueline). He also leaves to cherish his extended family with Kathy Brown and her children, Isaac Howard, Tyrone Brown, Steve Brown, and Marcel Brown. He also leaves two grandchildren: J.R. Rodney Banks II (Ashley) of Bumpass, VA, and Ashleigh Banks of Woodbridge, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Phillip Newman, his brothers, Charles F. and Lee R. Banks; and his sister, Louise E. Roberts.
Herbert truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, he loved telling jokes and debating politics, poker and puzzles. His greatest enjoyment was gambling in the walls of Atlantic City, Maryland Live and eventually MGM Grand. Whether he won or lost, that was his thing.
A memorial service will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, 200 Butternut Drive, Fredericksburg, VA, 22408, on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
