Harriet Elaine
White
d. Dec 7, 2024
Harriet Elaine White , affectionately known to some as "St. Clair," was born on August 24, 1950, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. On December 7, 2024, she peacefully entered eternal rest, reuniting with her beloved parents, Jeanelle "Ms. Jeanelle" St. Clair, and John Green. Elaine received her early education in the Caroline County and Fredericksburg City School Systems before continuing her academic journey at Norfolk State College (now Norfolk State University) and George Mason University, receiving her master's degree in education.
A woman of deep faith, Elaine accepted Christ at an early age at Beulah Baptist Church. Her devotion to serving the Lord spanned more than four decades. She graced the congregation of Shiloh Old Site Baptist Church with her voice in the choir, participated in the adult dance ministry, and served in the Micah ministry. Her passion for ministering through song extended beyond her church, as she often collaborated with other community singers and musicians.
Elaine was a natural teacher who touched countless lives during her 32-year career as a physical education teacher in Prince William County Public Schools. Beginning at Garfield High School, she coached volleyball and inspired young athletes. Later, she found joy teaching elementary students at Enterprise Elementary School and skillfully guided pre-teens at Godwin Middle School. After retiring in 2006, she continued to nurture her love for teaching by quizzing children and adults alike on their spelling, vocabulary, and math skills!
Elaine's retirement years were filled with service to her church, support for her alma mater, substitute teaching at Spotswood Elementary and Walker Grant Middle Schools, and cherished time with her family. She will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, unwavering faith, willingness to help, and dedication to enriching the lives of those around her.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Melvin "Butch" Lewis. She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by her two daughters, Shaneil Alsop (Melvin/Bobo) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Tarah Goggins (Jason) of Stafford, VA; her two adored grandchildren, Myles and Madison; her precious great-grandchild, Jayce; her three brothers, Wayne St. Clair (Patricia), Delane St. Clair, and Romel Turner (Tamara) and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
