Gloria
Shepherd
d. May 27, 2025
On May 27, 2025—unexpectedly to us, but not to God—He called His daughter home to eternal rest.
Gloria Faye Shepherd , 73, was born on September 11, 1951, in Washington, D.C., to the late Audrey King and Arthur Johnson. She was educated in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Throughout her life, Gloria held several jobs, including working as a shift manager at the original Hardee's on Princess Anne Street. She later worked in housekeeping at Mary Washington Hospital. After leaving the workforce, Gloria opened her home to care for children—launching an in-home daycare that quickly became beloved by family and friends. The children affectionately called her "Glo Glo," a nickname that stuck and spoke volumes about the love she poured into others.
Gloria had a gift for sewing and took pride in creating her own curtains, which she lovingly hung throughout her home. She had a green thumb and cherished her plants, nurturing each one with care. Gloria was also known for her fascination with clocks and built a cherished collection over the years.
Though Gloria did not belong to a physical church building, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and had a personal relationship with God.
Each morning, she would share uplifting and inspirational messages on social media, bringing light and encouragement to others as they began their day. Gloria also enjoyed watching murder mystery series and reality TV shows, which brought her joy and laughter.
Though Gloria had a quiet and gentle spirit, she was strong and unwavering. She carried herself with grace, but make no mistake—she was never afraid to speak her mind when necessary.
Gloria was preceded in death by her brothers, Bradley King and Carl King; sisters, Jacqueline Baptiste and June White; sisters-in-law, Lauretta Johnson and Sharon Shepherd; brothers-in-law, Matthew Shepherd, George Shepherd, Charles Shepherd, and Joseph Williams; her son-in-law, Timothy Coleman Sr.; and a special niece, Jacqueline "Jackie" McCord.
She was united in marriage to Douglas Shepherd for 53 years. She leaves to cherish her memory six children: Terry King, Ernest Bacon, Bradley Swint (Tiffany), Douglas "PooCoo" Shepherd (Whitney), Yolanda "Faye" King (Anthony), and Tendra Coleman (John).
Gloria was a proud grandmother to Shiyonna, Daekwon, Alahna, Lewis, Michelle, Timothy Jr., Ashley, Brittany, Tiona, Briona, and Bradley Jr. She also leaves behind three cherished great-grandchildren: Liliana, Ava, and Mya.
She is survived by her siblings: Hope Williams, Linda Ferguson (Clinton), and Douglas King; sister-in-law, Anne Sparks; and aunts, Delores King and Anna King.
Gloria is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever remember her love, strength, and unwavering kindness. Gloria will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
