Gloria
Adeyemi
d. Mar 28, 2026
Gloria Webb Adeyemi
was so much to so many — a loving mother, a caring sister, a cherished aunt, and a proud grandmother. Born on March 17, 1945, in Centreville, Alabama, Gloria Sanderous Webb was the first of four children born to Ferance William Webb Sr. and Essie Dickinson Webb. Gloria's life was a testament to strength, kindness, and perseverance. She grew up with a curious spirit and a passion for learning, attending Central High School in Mobile, Alabama (class of 1962), where she laid the foundation for a life filled with accomplishment and compassion.
Gloria was deeply committed to her education, earning a bachelor's degree in biology from Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1966. She later obtained a master's degree in biology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. During her sophomore year, Gloria was selected to participate in a prestigious summer enrichment program at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Upon completing her undergraduate studies, Gloria was honored as a fellow in the Catherine Hughes Waddell Graduate Fellows Program at Wellesley College, where she studied from 1966 to 1967. In 1964, while still an undergraduate, she was proudly initiated into the Beta Upsilon chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., an experience that became a defining part of her collegiate journey and lasting legacy.
Immediately after graduate school, Gloria began her career with the St. Louis Community College (STLCC) system, where she eventually became the Dean of Science and Technology. In 1972, Gloria married, and from this union, twin boys were born in 1974. Unfortunately, the marriage ended in divorce. Gloria lived in St. Louis for more than 50 years, where she cherished her life and friendships. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Chesterfield and enjoyed singing in the choir. In 2008, Gloria retired from STLCC and spent the next few years caring for her mother until 2013. As Gloria's health began to decline, she moved to Virginia to be closer to her youngest sister, Michelle.
Gloria was preceded in death by her sons, Olugbenro Adeyemi and Olufunmike Adeyemi, her sister, Dr. Glenda Webb, and one nephew, Jody Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memory two grandchildren, Emily Adeyemi and Isaiah Adeyemi; one brother, Ferance (Sandra) Webb, Jr; two sisters, Everlene Hayes, and Michelle (Timothy) Osborne; three nephews, Jeremy (Callie) Hayes, Jamelle Osborne, and Travis Miller; four nieces, Fenysa (Samuel) McDaniel, Felecia (O'Shai) Robinson, Jahla Osborne, and Julia (Bryan) Waring; and a host of cousins, grand nieces and nephews, friends, and church family.
Funeral services for Gloria will be held in Mobile, Alabama, with arrangements entrusted to Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, located at 201 N. Hamilton Street, Mobile, AL 36603, telephone (251) 432‑6528. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church No.1, 409 Lexington Avenue, Mobile, AL 36603, with the funeral service beginning immediately afterward at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery on Mobile Street in Mobile, Alabama.
