Gertrude McKenney was born on April 9, 1922 to the late Dan and Flossie Allen. She was also the sister to the late Beatrice Allen, Blanche Young, Edith Allen, Hilburn Allen, and Daniel Allen. She departed this life on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at home her home in Hartwood, Virginia.

Gertrude lived an amazing life in her century-long "+2" life's journey. At an early age, she became a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Garrisonville, Virginia where she served on the Usher Board. She learned and instilled many values in her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, knitting, and spending time with her grandchildren.  Gertrude valued not only the simple things in life but loved everyone she came in contact with.

She leaves to cherish her memories of three children, Booker T. McKenney (Patricia), two daughters Ethel Parker (Hugh) and Jean Allen (caregiver), seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Glen Haven Memory Gardens.
