Obituary

Fannie Malinda Johnson , daughter of the late James Lott and Lou Emma (Galloway) Johnson, was born on November 28, 1927, in Caroline County, Virginia. She was the eighth of nine children, and on April 5, 2025, at the age of 97, she became the last of her siblings to be called

home to be with the Lord.

Fannie graduated from Union High School in Caroline County and gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a lifelong member of Reedy Baptist Church, where she began attending services with her family as a child. From a young age, she showed a deep love for photography —a passion that remained with her throughout her life. Always with a camera in hand, she captured precious moments with the friends and family she held dear. It was her way of holding on to time and love.

In 1947, as a young woman, Fannie moved to West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she made her home for the rest of her life. She worked as a seamstress in the garment industry until retirement. Fannie was also famously known for her warmth in the kitchen—there was always a pot on the stove and food ready for any unexpected guest who came through her door. Her pig's feet, collard greens, and deviled eggs were legendary—so much so that even those who didn't like eggs would admit hers were among the best things they'd ever eaten.

Fannie was a strong, complex, and outspoken woman who carried many secrets—but never lacked compassion. Her kindness often shined brightest in how she cared for others, especially in the way she lovingly looked after her older sisters during their final days. She was a loyal friend to many, and her presence was cherished and adored even into her 97th year.

She had one child, a son named Stanley Eddie Johnson Sr. Fannie leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through her grandchildren: granddaughters Stasha M. Johnson, Faizah E. Hough (Lamar), and Keona K. Johnson; and grandsons Stanley E. Johnson Jr. (Sylvia), Antwan L. Johnson, Kashad A. Johnson, and Joseph A. Johnson. She was also blessed with twelve beloved great-grandchildren: Chardonnay, Antwan, Amari, Stanley III, Zion, Zoe, Jasper, Lauren, Kisan, Jasmyne, Kaylen, and Samaya; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
