Obituary

Eugene Leonardo Nelson II , age 42, of Richmond, VA, was born on December 4, 1981, to his late mother, Kelly Patrice Nelson. He passed away on June 15, 2024.

Eugene attended Armstrong High School and J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, where he studied Business and Psychology. Eugene was known for his fearlessness, and despite having a complicated life, he had a big heart and genuinely wanted to help people the best way he knew how. His greatest love was for his children, Gee'Leyah Chase and Jataevion Curry, whom he loved fiercely and eternally.

As a child, Eugene had an affinity for acrobatics. His brother Juangelo fondly recalls watching in absolute amazement as Eugene propelled his body towards the weather-worn, chain-link fence that surrounded the playground at Northside Middle School when they lived with their Uncle Juan Nelson, Aunt Tonya P. Nelson, and cousins Natasha, and Kelly. Juangelo also recalls how much of a protector his big brother was when they were children. He was Juangelo's shield, guarding him through the many dangers that stalked the streets of Richmond. His dedication allowed Juangelo to complete school without encountering a single bully.

As an adult, Eugene had many hobbies, including his affinity for gaming, his love of Pit Bull dogs, and his unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys. His love for dogs was profound, and he dedicated much of his time to training them. Eugene aspired to turn this passion into a career, with hopes of one day opening his own kennel, "Blue Kennels". He envisioned creating a haven for dogs where they could be trained, loved, and cared for. His dream was to build a community around his kennel that promoted responsible dog ownership and celebrated the special bond between humans and their canine companions.

Eugene is survived by his son, Jataevion Curry; daughter, Gee'Leyah Kelly Chase; granddaughter, Mylah-rose Chase; grandfather, Eugene L. Nelson III, brother, Juangelo L. Nelson (Ulricke W. "Jordy" Jordan, Fiancee), Cassidy Abigail Jordan, Timothy Yannick Jordan; aunt, Nancy; uncles, Juan (Claudine, Fiancee) and Wayne, great uncle Otis (Linda); and cousins, Natasha, Kelly, Mahogany, Ricky, Marcel (Penny), Myra, Maria, Anaya, Bryson, Stacy, Isaiah, Craig (Jeannette), Aijai, Jayden, Charles (Eulanda), Quinton, Tony (Julius), and Jeanette (Dieylani). He also leaves behind a host of extended family and close friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Barbara Nelson, mother, Kelly Patrice Nelson, and his aunt, Tonya P. Nelson, uncles, Charles P. Nelson Sr. (Cora), Cornealius W. Nelson (Evelyn), Donald A. Nelson.

As a family, we will endure this pain together. We will cling to each other in our darkest moments as we mend this wound. We will mourn his loss. We will cherish his memory. We will cry our aches into acceptance, and we will find our way through the mire of this devastating tragedy.

Eugene's absence leaves a void that will never be filled. His warmth, protection, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. It is our prayer as a family that we will one day be reunited with our dearly departed. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
