Emrid Baylor,
Jr.
d. Sep 28, 2023
Emrid Cornelious Baylor, Jr. , son of the late Emrid (Sr.) and Mary Baylor, was born July 17, 1954, in Caroline County. He departed this life from his earthly toil, in the early morning of September 28, 2023, peacefully at Mary Washington Hospital. Early in his youth, Emrid accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and now is resting in eternal peace.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary "Button" Baylor.
Emrid grew up in Caroline County enjoying all the joys of country living, growing up on a farm, fishing and playing outdoors. He attended Caroline County Public Schools and attended a Vocational Trade program in Fisherville, Virginia. His love for playing football in his youth followed him to being a devout Pittsburg Steelers fan. You could see him sporting Steelers gear or hear him share the most up to date stats on the squad at any time. He was not just a lover of football but was also a fan of wrestling and would jokingly refer to his brothers by their wrestling aliases. You could often find him watching SportsCenter to catch up on the highlights of practically any sport.
Emrid was often the jokester, the sunny smile and the touch of happiness and joy to all who encountered him. A lifetime of dedicated hard work, predominantly within the healthcare field, from Fredericksburg Nursing Home and then to Mary Washington Hospital. Working at the hospital was more than a job to him, it was a calling. A calling to be "the light", to encourage, bring laughter, joy, and cheer to all who encountered him. It was his honor to serve. He humbly desired to make people's lives a little less weighted by making them smile. Emrid was well known at the hospital for his willingness to help others and his positive outlook on life. He faithfully served at Mary Washington as part of the Environmental Services Team for nearly 40 years until his health began to fail him and he was no longer able to work. Although he could no longer work, he continued being a light, at his doctor's office visits, his hospital stays, and even on trips to the grocery store or the corner market. His smile was his gift to share love with others and he spread that gift everywhere he would go. He not only shared that smile but would encourage others often through both word and deed to always "walk by faith and not by sight".
He leaves to cherish his sweet memories, two sisters and two brothers, Carlene Randle, Dorothy Wright, and James Baylor of Woodford, VA, and Donald Baylor of Fredericksburg, VA; one brother-in-law, Jimmie Randle of Woodford, VA; one sister-in-law, Gladys Lambert of Fredericksburg, VA; three nephews, Daniel Randle (Kimberly) of Alexandria, VA, Joseph Lambert of Newberg, IA, and Monte Lambert (Kim) of Stafford, VA; five nieces, Paula Thompson of Richmond, VA, Melissa Fox of Jacksonville, NC, Letitia McCall (Kelvin) of Spotsylvania, VA, Katina Randle Howard of Fredericksburg, VA, and Corrissa Lambert of Stafford, VA; several great nephews, great nieces, cousins, other relatives, and a host of special friends, and co-workers.
Arrangements are being handled by A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home.
