Obituary

Ellsworth Stansbury Brooks , affectionately known as "Butch", "Red" or "Cherry Lips" was born on July 11, 1952, to the late Robert J. and Mary A. Brooks in Stafford, VA. He entered eternal rest on January 27, 2022.

Ellsworth accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site). Later in life he joined Third Mount Zion Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and one of his favorite sayings was "One day at a time sweet Jesus."

Butch was educated in the Fredericksburg City School System. He loved sports and excelled in basketball. In his late twenties he could be found enjoying fun times on and off the field with the Smokers Softball team. In 2019, he along with other members of the 1972 James Monroe High School Boys' Basketball team, the only undefeated basketball team in school history with a record of 25-0, was inducted into the JMHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

After graduating high school, Ellsworth joined the US Army.

Cherry Lips loved to dance, sing and to just have a good time. He was known for his two-step and making up lyrics. He often had a word or "inspirational" phrase to share with those he encountered in his daily travels. Cherry Lips will be remembered as being the life of the party.

In addition to his parents, Ellsworth was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Jr., LaVaughn and Clarence Brooks; two sisters, Elaine Brooks Coghill, and Barbara Allen; and one grandson, Bradley Robinson, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his three kids whom he loved dearly, a daughter, Le'Toria Coleman; two sons, Chaz Robinson and Bradley Robinson; six grandchildren, Damara Eura, Aniya, Chaz Jr., Chazity, Chazymn, and Zahc'eus Robinson; two brothers, Larry and Anthony (Robin) Brooks; one sister, Sandra Bundy (Jammie); one uncle, David Williams, special long term friend, Barbara Robinson, and her children whom he loved as his own, Angel, Hope, Faith and Brandon Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
