Betty Harris, age 76, of Spotsylvania County, earned her wings on June 7, 2025.

She was born December 18, 1948 in Arlington, VA to Margaret Catherine and Melvin David Gates. Betty graduated from Wakefield High in Arlington, VA in 1967 and then began her career in Finance working for Arlington Trust Co., the Government, Real Estate as a Secretary, and then retired after 36 years in the Mortgage Industry.

Betty loved going to the beach where she enjoyed soaking up the sun and swimming in the ocean with her family and friends. She was a good cook. Betty loved to prepare Thanksgiving Dinner, her famous spaghetti dinner, and especially her son's favorite, fried chicken.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jimmy" Thomas Harris of 54 years; her parents, her one and only beloved son, James Thomas Harris II whom she cherished to the day she died; grandmother Florence Lynn Walton; her brother, William C. Gates; two sisters-in-law, Betty Williams Greenhow, and Joyce Terry; brothers-in-law, Douglas L. Gregory and Gordon Harris; and her father-in-law, Douglas Fisher Harris.

Survivors include her adopted daughter, Jamese Miranda (Charlie); grandchildren Ashlee J. Hood (Mike), James T. Harris III, Jaedon T. Lee Harris, Brandon Boyer, Gabriel and Carolina Miranda; great grandchildren, Noah and Ava Hood; brother-in-law, Maurice V. Harris; four sisters-in-law, Clarice Brown (Fred), Gayle Gregg (Carlton), Kathy Harris and Robin Samuels; daughter-in-law, Jamie Harris; mother-in-law, Helen V. Harris; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives, and friends.

Her smile and laughter will surely be missed. We love you to the moon and back Mawmaw!

A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, 200 Butternut Drive, Fredericksburg, VA, 22408, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172 at 1:30 PM.
