Obituary

Earlyne Glenville Ford Rose , born September 13, 1924, went to her heavenly home on January 27, 2024. She was born to the late Gourley Wellington and Mollie Watson Ford, Sr.

She gave her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age at Shiloh Old Site Baptist Church by Rev. B.H. Hester.

She graduated from Walker Grant School and then moved to Darien, Connecticut for two years.  After returning to Fredericksburg, she married the love of her life, Robert S. Rose "Bobby".  They moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she worked at the Fort Howard VA Hospital.

She returned to Fredericksburg in the 1970's to care for her father whose leg was amputated and then worked at a nursing home after his death. Her heart of gold shined brightly as she opened her home to care for other family members.

Earlyne was a very independent woman who lived by herself in a two-story home until December 8, 2023. She was still driving a couple blocks to doctor appointments at age 97. Her only health issue was arthritis in the knees and prior to her recent illness she had never been hospitalized.

As the family matriarch, she was a character who was so full of love, wisdom, and humor. She loved eating sweets and chocolates, doing crossword puzzles, watching the news and the Washington Redskins (Commanders) football games. She kept abreast of current events and politics and enjoyed discussions on these topics and updating others with the latest trending news.

We will truly miss her, but we know that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.  May she rest in peace in her new heavenly home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Rose; parents, Gourley and Mollie Ford, Sr.; siblings, Dorothy Nelson, Gourley Ford, Jr., and Althea Lucas.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her sister, Elizabeth C. Hamlett of Woodbridge, VA; nieces, Cassandra "Sandy" Lucas, Denise Webster (Dave), and Gail Lucas; nephews, Navonia Nelson (Phyllis), Kurt Lucas (Marshetta), Warren Nelson, Greg Hamlett (Brenda), Gourley Ford, III "G.W." (Canella), Dwight Ford, and Jeffrey Hamlett (Christina); seven great nieces; eight  great nephews; thirteen great-great nieces; five great-great nephews; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
