Obituary

Doris "Jean" Minor (aka Nannie) peacefully transitioned from her earthly life to her new heavenly life on March 1, 2025. She was born on February 11, 1942, in Spotsylvania, Virginia to the late Benjamin Fletcher and Susie Washington Fletcher Lindsay of Spotsylvania, Virginia.

Jean attended John J. Wright Consolidated School in Spotsylvania, Virginia.

She joined Beulah Baptist Church in Woodford, Virginia at an early age. She was a faithful member of the Adult Choir and loved attending church until her health failed. She had a servant's heart and was very passionate about cooking and entertaining. If visiting from out of town she always wanted to send you home with food or something in her arsenal of "stuff". Christmas was one of her favorite holidays and she enjoyed decorating. She loved to visit with family and friends laughing and talking about old times. She enjoyed playing games and watching Gunsmoke. Pow-Pow as she would call it.

Jean worked for many years in the housekeeping department at Riverside Convalescent Home and as a Domestic Engineer. She retired from Spotsylvania County as a school bus driver in 2002 after 25 years of service.

In May of 1958, Jean united in Holy Matrimony with her soulmate and best friend John Henry Minor, III. They were blessed with three children. Franklin "Frankie" John Minor, Shelia Ann Minor, both of Spotsylvania, VA, and Peggy J. Minor-Jones (Laird), Columbia, SC.

She is predeceased by her stepfather, Horace Lindsay, Sr.; two sisters, Mary Frances Johnson, and Pauline Gittens; five brothers, Lewis Bobby Fletcher, Ruebin Roger Fletcher, Scott Russell Fletcher, Sr., Clinton Bernard Fletcher, Sr., and Benjamin Warren Fletcher; brothers-in-law, Harold T. Minor and Bernard E. Jackson; sisters-in-law Landonia Fletcher and Audrey Fletcher; and great grandson, Isaiah Chew.

She leaves to treasure her memory a devoted husband and children; a brother, Horace A. Lindsay, Jr. (Cora), Las Vegas, NV; three grandsons, Joseph Benjamin Chew, Christopher John Chew (Jennifer) and  Jason Tyrone Chew all of Spotsylvania; two granddaughters, Jade Denise Haskins (Roland) and Tyra Gale Foster (Tevin); five great granddaughters, Kamryn, Kris, Kaylee, Kenzley Chew and Ryan Foster; one great grandson, Wesley Haskins; brothers-in-law, George Minor (Dorothy), Clarance Minor (Joyce), and Fred Minor (Vernell) all of Fredericksburg; sisters-in-law, Shelva J. Fletcher, Alice Fletcher, and Deloris M. Wright all of Spotsylvania; Elaine Minor of Stafford and Gladys E. Jackson of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a beloved daughter in-law, Thelma Ivey; a cherished friend, Carrie Berryman; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour before the funeral service. A funeral service will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
