Doris Jean Darden , 88, a teacher for 42 years in Virginia public schools, passed away October 6, 2022.

Born August 8, 1934, she was raised on a farm in Isle of Wight County, near Carrsville, Virginia. After graduating from Virginia State in 1955, she began teaching at John J. Wright Consolidated School in Spotsylvania County. She later taught at Spotsylvania Senior High, and earned a Master's degree from Virginia State. She began teaching at James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg in 1974, retiring in 1997. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Spotsylvania County Afro-American Teachers Association, and Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site).

Ms. Darden was preceded in death by her parents, James R., and Martha Duke Darden, and long-term friend, Ennis "O'Toole" Lewis, Jr. Ms. Darden is survived by numerous cousins, and friends.

A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. An additional service will be held at Pulaski Baptist Church, in Carrsville, VA, on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM. The internment will follow at the Darden/Duke Family Cemetery in Carrsville, VA.
