Obituary

Dennis Minor, Sr. was born on February 22, 1936, in Spotsylvania County. He was one of 13 children to come from the union of the late Mallory and Helen Minor. As a young boy, Dennis joined St. Paul Baptist Church, where he gave his life to Christ. Growing up, Dennis was a hard worker and a loving son. At the age of seventeen, he labored as a sawmill worker where he tragically lost his leg. He later took on work as a handyman and maintenance man.

As a young adult, he left his childhood home and moved to Philadelphia where he spent many years of his life. While in Philadelphia, he lived alongside some of his other siblings and close relatives. He then moved to New Jersey where he continued to live near close family members and worked in the Star Sprinkler Casino.  Dennis was always known to stay close to family.  He was also known to be a gardener, mechanic, and hunter. He had a reputation for being extremely funny, a great storyteller and an even greater singer. Known as the Black Elvis, Dennis would start singing at any time and would easily draw a crowd.  Anyone who knew him knew that he loved a crowd! However, of all the things he was known for, his reputation for being a real Ladies' Man supersedes them all.  For, it is his children that will allow his legacy to live on for generations to come. There will always be someone nearby who can say, "Dennis Minor is my father" or "Dennis Minor is my grandfather." As the family man that he was, Dennis decided to return home to Spotsylvania County in the the 1980s where he continued to raise his children and be near his family.  It is in his hometown that he lived out the remainder of his life.

He is survived by his children, Dennis Minor, Jr., Mary Adams (Thomas), Frank Minor, Charles Minor, Anthony Carter (Regina), Melissa White (Rodney), Clivette Walker, Marlena Mccoy, Tyshea Minor and Roger Minor; two sisters, Alice Dean Minor (John), and Marva Minor; one brother, Leander Minor (Aida); several grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and a host of other relatives.

A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will be held at Branch Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Spotsylvania, VA.
