Obituary

Rev. Dennis Fowler was born on May 2, 1959, in Yazoo City, Mississippi to the late Ben Fowler and Leona Noys Fowler. He was number 9 of 11 children. Rev. Fowler graduated from Yazoo High School in 1977.

Rev. Fowler accepted Christ in his youth and joined New Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, Mississippi. He served as an usher and later became a Deacon. Upon moving to Virginia, he joined Star of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Triangle, VA and served faithfully until transferring his membership to Union Bell Baptist Church, Falmouth, VA under the leadership of Pastor Clarence E. Mays. During his time at Union Bell, Rev. Fowler served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, choir member, maintained the church grass and supported the van ministry.

In 2006 Rev. Fowler acknowledged his calling to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He took his calling and Christian walk serious. Though trials and tribulations came, his faith did not waiver. Even during his short illness and on his sick bed, his faith was in God. He was committed to Christ. He would pray, "Lord, Your Will Be Done."

Wherever he went, whomever he met, Jesus Christ was glorified. Rev. Fowler always said, "God don't need secret service Christians". He was not ashamed nor afraid to talk about God. Rev. Fowler did not meet strangers he met opportunities to tell somebody about Jesus Christ. He would even give away clothing off his back to homeless people.

Rev Fowler's work career started as a teen working at a local restaurant and later at Mississippi Chemical Corporation. Moving to Detroit, he worked briefly for Ford Motors. Upon moving to Virginia he worked in construction and was part of the crew that helped build Potomac Mills in Woodbridge, VA. He also worked as a repair technician for Whirlpool, was an apartment maintenance technician and also  performed handy man duties. He loved painting cars as a side job. His favorite job was in the transportation field. He became a professional motorcoach driver which afforded him the opportunity to travel local and long distances where he met people from all walks of life. He worked for area motorcoach companies which lead him to meet his future wife, JoAnne in 2001. Love was a slow burn for JoAnne, but she eventually saw that he was the one for her and love blossomed. They were united in marriage on April 6, 2002. Anytime either one asked the question, "do you love me? The answer was "yes", then the next question was "how much?", the only acceptable answer was "I love you a whole heap a lot."

In 2018 , Rev Fowler joined Infrasource Construction, Lorton, VA as a Driver/Operator. He enjoyed his job and the crew he worked with. He especially enjoyed working and having fun while on the job. He would say "today was a good day, because I had fun."

Rev. Fowler enjoyed watching most sports. His favorite pastime was shooting and watching pool. Nothing could or would take the place of reading and studying God's word. Daily morning devotion took place before starting his workday, no matter how early he had to rise to get it in. God was a priority in his life. Rev. Fowler had a heart like King David who knew God's mercy and grace each day. He had a passion for worshiping God, praying to God and trusting God to order his steps.

In addition to his parents Rev. Fowler was preceded in death by two brothers, James Ross, Nathaniel Ross, two sisters Annie Bell Robertson, Pealie Mae Fowler and two brothers-in-law, Aubrey Smith, Sr. and Ossie Watkins.

Rev. Fowler transitioned to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life, wife, JoAnne Scott Fowler; three daughters, Shameen Wynn of Maryland, Leonia Houston (Kewan) of Mississippi, and Jessica Winters of Woodbridge, VA; five sisters, Juanita Lear (Clyde), Deloris Smith, Rosa Lee Fowler, all of Yazoo City, Mississippi, Jannah Williams (Wiley) of Dallas, TX, and Dorothy Watkins, of Detroit, MI; one brother, Tarome Fowler of Colonial Beach, VA; three grandsons, DiJin Wynn of Maryland, KJ (Kewan II), and Kairo Houston, both of Mississippi; a mother-in-law, Annie B.
