Obituary

Delsi Lamarr Lyle passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday morning, December 22, 2024, at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, Spotsylvania, VA.

Born on February 12, 1960, at Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital in NC, Delsi was the beloved third child of Captain Isaac R. Vaughan Sr. and Winifred N. Vaughan. Growing up in a military family, Delsi's childhood was one of adventure, moving across the country before her family settled in Hyattsville, Maryland. She attended Prince George's County Public Schools and graduated from Parkdale High School in Lanham.

Delsi's journey of service began in 1979 when she joined the U.S. Army, serving as an administrative secretary at Barbers Point, Hawaii. Yet, her most cherished role was as a dedicated mother. She poured her heart and soul into raising her two children, Ilse Delnita and Jordan Micah Harris. Her unwavering love, strength, and sacrifice defined her life, and her children were her greatest source of pride.

Delsi's life took a beautiful turn when she met Donald Lyle II—the man who would become the love of her life. Though she initially didn't give him the time of day, Donald's persistence won her over. Eventually, she agreed to a date, but she made one thing clear: her children would always come first. Donald admired her devotion, and on August 18, 2001, they were married. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Through the years, Delsi and Donald leaned on each other, supporting one another with strength and compassion as they endured many health concerns. Their bond was a testament to their deep love and commitment.

Delsi would travel to visit her husband at his duty stations in Newport, Rhode Island, and Cherry Point, North Carolina. During her husband's multiple deployments to Iraq, she stayed in Maryland to look out for her widowed mother and her children. "We both agreed this would be best for our family," Donald reflected.

Delsi's dedication to service was also reflected by her career in the medical field. She was a nationally licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and worked for Yater Medical Group, George Washington University Hospital, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue, Providence Hospital, and she retired from Washington Hospital Center in 2021.

Above all, Delsi adored her grandchildren. Granddaughters Lola Maria Harris and Jordyn Milan Harris and grandson Justice Micah Harris were her pride and joy.

Delsi's love for her family was limitless. She is survived by her dear husband, Donald Lyle II; her daughter, Ilse Delnita Harris; her "Mom," Juanita Lyle; and her "Dad," Donald Lyle Jr. She cherished her siblings, Isaac (Estella), Linda (Gerry), and Kathryn. Her nephews, Christopher, Christian (Pauline), and Cailean (Jannette); and great-nieces, Dellany Muthoni Dyson and Cailee Elaine Dyson, were both dear to her heart. She also treasured her special "daughters," Reese Harris and Devin Riley, whose companionship brought her comfort and happiness. She recently fell in love with her new puppy, Spinach.

Delsi was preceded in death by her son, Jordan Micah Harris; her parents, Captain Isaac R. Vaughan Sr. and Winifred N. Vaughan; and her great-nephew, Jacob Arthur Dyson.

We remember Delsi not only for her many roles—a devoted wife, a loving sister, a doting grandmother, and a loyal friend—but above all, as a dedicated mother and grandmother whose love and care shaped the lives of her family and those around her.

Though our hearts ache with her passing, we find comfort in celebrating the legacy of love she leaves behind. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Delsi is loved beyond measure and missed beyond words.
