Clyde Vines,
Jr.
d. Feb 2, 2025
Clyde Elwood Vines, Jr., 71, departed this life on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at his residence in Stafford, Virginia.
He was born March 18, 1953, to the late Elwood and Irene Johnson Vines. He was the firstborn son after the two had four older daughters. Clyde was tied to his Daddy right from birth, that was until his brother Charles (Michael) would later join him. In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Michael and two sisters, Doris Marie Weldon and Rosie Lee Hawkins.
Clyde attended Stafford County Schools and graduated from Stafford High School. He joined Shiloh Old Site Baptist Church at an early age. His love for cars began as a child and he was infatuated with all types of cars and trucks. He was known to drive a smooth ride. Perhaps you seen him riding around Stafford in his Lemans, Chevelle, red Ford Truck or blue Camara. He recently added a SUV, a Chevy Tahoe with fancy sport rims to his collection of automobiles. Clyde even bought his Daddy a tractor and loved to watch him cut the grass and tend to the garden.
On June 23, 1973, Clyde married Marcia Taylor. They lived in an apartment in the beginning and soon built their forever home on Mine Road literally by hand and with the assistance of his father, uncles and other family members but on his own initiative. A few years later, he and Marcia welcomed their two daughters, Sonya Rochelle and Cassie Sherreė.
He was pretty much a jack of all trades in construction, from concrete, laborer, painting and carpentry, but his passion was that of bricklaying. He developed into a very talented bricklayer by shadowing his daddy and uncle, Dick Vines. He left his signature trademark on many blocks, bricks, retaining walls, garages, barbecue pits, mailboxes, fireplaces and homes around Stafford, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania. He even extended his talents by taking jobs in Washington, DC and Maryland. Clyde would always have his tools with him as he traveled to various job sites. In fact, he would have them in the back seat, trunk of his car and eventually he could be seen driving up and down I-95 with the mixer and scaffolds in tow behind and on his red and white Ford pickup truck. Over the years, he often shared his talent with others and even took on additional trades such as remodeling kitchens and bathrooms, installing tile floors and brick paver patios.
Clyde was a flashy and dapper man, often sporting the latest fashion trends and even the thick moustache and wide sideburns. He loved dancing and frequented many partying spots like Walker's Inn, Washington's Inn, Cozy Corners and other party functions in the area. He also played on the Men's "Right on Time" softball team and spent many weekends playing teams all around Stafford and Fredericksburg. Clyde also loved to watch television and would be up to date with the latest world and local news. He also watched sports. He would tune in to watch his favorite team, the "Pittsburgh Steelers."
Not only did he inherit many talents from his Daddy and Uncles but past times as well. One of his favorite past times was horseracing and loved when it was time for the Thoroughbred Racing Events each year starting with the Kentucky Derby, then the Preakness and ending with the Belmont Stakes to round out the Triple Crown series. Clyde was often seen chauffeuring his Daddy and other family members around town. He was a special "Uber Driver" for special cousins: Richard and Roxana Parker and others but he referred to this as his missionary care duties. After his Daddy died in 1998, he became "The Man of The Family" taking care of his mother, sisters and other family members when their health began to fail. He shared with all of us prior to his passing, he lived a wonderful and great life doing what he wanted to do. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 51 years Marcia; three daughters, Mrs. Sonya Pope (Michael) of Fairfield, Ohio, Mrs. Cassie Sherreė Holmes (Penter III) of Plantation, Florida, and Ms. Justina Coleman of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two brothers, Mr. Tommy Vines of New York, New York and Mr. Phillip Vines of Stafford, Virginia; three sisters, Dr. Lois Cunningham (James), of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Shirley Hawkins of Stafford, Virginia; and Mrs. Charlene Greenhow (Gregory) of Sterling, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Reverend Malcolm Taylor (Teressa) of Richmond, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Ms. Jacqueline Taylor of Stafford, Virginia; five grandchildren, Penter IV, Felicity Holmes, William, Charles, and Matthew Pope, one aunt, Mrs. Sylvia Hailstork (James, Jr.); one uncle, Mr. Freddie Johnson (Helen), several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends; special friends and buddies, Andrė Douglas, Cecil Holmes, Richard ("Dee Dee") Parker, Clifton ("Mutt") Brown and a special family friend Reverend Georgette Agnew.
