Carl Barrett
Ii
d. Sep 1, 2026
Carl Anthony Barrett II was born July 27, 1981, in Washington, DC to Yvette Pleasetta Barrett-Williams and Carl Anthony Barrett, Sr. He went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2026.
Carl, affectionately known by family and friends as "TJ," was a one-of-a-kind person whose presence could be felt wherever he went. Those who knew TJ will remember not only the things he accomplished, but the way he made people feel—with his humor, his confidence, his generosity, his competitive spirit, and his unmistakable personality.
TJ lived a life filled with many chapters. He was an athlete, a sailor, a protector, a businessman, a massage therapist, a church servant, a son, a father, a grandfather, an uncle, a friend, protector servant and man of faith. But beyond every title and every accomplishment was simply TJ—a man who loved deeply, laughed loudly, competed fiercely, served faithfully, and cared about the people in his life.
He was not perfect, and he never pretended to be. He was real, genuine, outspoken, funny, strong-willed, and unforgettable. He had a way of leaving an impression, and anyone who knew him has a story, a memory, or a laugh that belongs to TJ.
His life was not defined by the challenges he faced, but by the love he gave, the people he protected, the faith he embraced, and the memories he created.
Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the time God gave us with TJ. We are grateful for the memories, the laughter, the lessons, the love, and even the stories that only TJ could create.
TJ is survived by his parents, Yvette Barrett-Williams and Carl A. Barrett, Sr.; his sister, Chantellaona Barrett and brother, Cordell Barrett; daughter, Teilani H. Lewis; son, Carl "Trey" A. Barrett III; and one grandson, DréSiah Wheeler; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Rest well, TJ, our son, our brother, our father, our grandfather, our uncle, our cousin and a friend to so many.
You fought hard. You loved deeply. You served faithfully. You lived a full life. We are proud of you. Y ou will never be forgotten.
