Barbara
Morton
d. Oct 5, 2026
Barbara “BW” Morton, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 5, 2026. After a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, she departed this life with the same grace, beautiful smile and loving spirit that defined her journey.
Born on May 13, 1936, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Iva Fairchild Wormley and Willie Boyd Washington, Barbara was one of five children and attended Walker-Grant School but family was always her first calling. Having stepped away from school to raise her son, she never lost sight of her own goals. Years later, through sheer perseverance and heart, she accomplished a deeply personal dream by earning her GED. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life.
Barbara worked in hospitality at the General Washington Inn, in retail at Woolworth's, and later retired from AMF Bowling. She loved hosting family and friends, reading, bowling, playing cards, dancing, watching sports, and cheering for her beloved Washington Commanders. She shared 39 cherished years of marriage with her husband, Warren Morton.
Known for her generosity and nurturing spirit, Barbara never met a stranger. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her heart always ready to help anyone in need. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, friend, and a beloved presence in the Fredericksburg community.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren Morton; her son, Anthony Hart; her brother, James "Hoppy" Washington; grandsons Tony Tillery and Denzel Hart; and four great-grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Tyrone Hart, Yvette Johnson (Thomas), Henry Hart Jr. (Lina), Jacqueline Armstead, Barbara Hart, and adopted grandson Dustin Washington; stepchildren Paula Morton, James Smith III (Denise), Valletta Smith Allen (Kurt),Vincent Smith (Lisa), her sisters Robbie "Peewee" Dotson (Charles), Charlotte Barnes, and, Constance "Housie" Lane; her stepbrother Charles Wormley (Patricia); 14 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. The family also extends special thanks to her devoted caregivers, who became like family.
Though Alzheimer's challenged her memory, it never dimmed her kindness, warmth, or ability to make others feel loved. Her life was a testament to faith, compassion, and service.
We find comfort knowing she is reunited with her beloved Warren. Her love, laughter, and generous spirit will live on in all who knew her. Rest well, Barbara, our beloved BW. Until we meet again.
