Obituary

Alvin Sylvester Day , was born on July 16, 1937, and raised in Lignum, VA. by The Madden Family as an adoptive child at a young age.  He departed this life on January 25, 2022 at the Fredericksburg Health and Rehab at the age of 84.

Alvin spent his youth living and working on The Madden's Farm. As a young adult he moved to Washington D.C., but came back regularly to visit his home town Lignum, Virginia to keep in touch with everyone. He lived in Washington D.C. for years and worked for Washington D.C. Cement Masons and Operative Plasters of Washington D.C. He worked hard and took care of himself and had a heart of gold. He only knew the life of sweat and hard work as a laborer. Later in his life he finally moved home and settled down to a content life, where he married Bessie (Dee Dee) Miles. They resided in Culpeper for a while and finally moved to Fredericksburg where they settled down and both retired. They both had health issues that prevented travel and was lovingly cared for by family and daughter Theresa Bradley at home until he were disabled. Special recognition and thanks is extended to Ms. Harriet Kinful for her excellent home nursing care of Alvin at his residence.

Alvin was a quite person and a man of few words but humble and thankful. He was loved and trusted by all . Alvin never had children of his own but readily adopted his new formed family . He was steadfast in his belief in the Lord throughout his life even though not a regular member of visiting churches but favored Ebenezer. He spent the rest of his later days happy and content with his wife and would do anything for her and her family. He accepted being a father, grandparent, and great grandparent and he enjoyed it. He lovingly cared for his wife, their home and was always fixing, mowing and making sure everything was in order. He loved and was devoted to his Miss Bessie! You could see the bright smile and light in his eyes when she entered the room or he called her name. After the passing of his beloved wife, his health continued to decline! The light in his eyes was growing dimmer with grief.

We will remember his gentle nature, his smile, a good laugh at a joke and show of love to all. Everybody can be GREAT; you don't need a college degree to serve The Lord!  You only need a heart full of "LOVE and FAITH" and that best describes Alvin Day.

Left to cherish his memories is his son, Lawrence Miles (Bernardine) of Fredericksburg, VA; two daughters, Theresa Bradley of Fredericksburg, VA, and Sheena Doreen Holmes (Daniel) of Unionville, VA,; Julia Miles, whom was like a daughter to him.

Alvin is survived by three grandchildren, Melissa Moorer (Fiancé Darnelle Miller) of Fredericksburg, VA, D.J. Holmes ( fiancé, Sarah Thompson) of Unionville, VA, and Patrice Gill (Lloyd) of Henrico, VA; eight great-grandchildren, Amari, Imani, and Amir of Fredericksburg, VA, Darius and Mya of Unionville, VA, Satira, Janiyah, and Isaiah of Henrico, VA; and many close devoted friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bessie Day; one daughter, Lucille Moorer; and one granddaughter, Sheena Taiesha Moorer.

We will forever remember his laugh and smile. Although, he is no longer with us, he has left us many memories that will warm our hearts again and again. We all wait the time we enter the gates of Heaven to see his smile again.
