Obituary

Alma Delois Perry , a loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many, passed away peacefully the morning of December 20, 2025, after a long battle with dementia and a gradual decline in health.

She was surrounded and supported by her loving children, with a special mention of her oldest son, Ray Williams, who she lived with until her death. She is also survived by her devoted daughter, Sonya Thomas, who cared for her every need to the best of her ability. Day and night, they were there to support Alma. She also had special caregivers who were there to assist her.

Alma was born on March 5, 1931, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to the late Joseph Perry and Ollie Etta Perry. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Rocky Mount, NC. She later traveled to New York, where her older sisters and brothers had migrated. There, she met Clarence C. Williams, whom she married, and together they had six children.

She was a stay at home mother until her older children were of age to help care for the younger children. She later worked as a nurse's aide at several hospitals and ended her career at Creedmoor Psychiatric Hospital in Queens Village, New York.

Alma was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board and volunteered in the soup kitchen. She gave so much of herself to others and was deeply devoted to her family. She loved being in the company of her sisters and enjoyed hosting family gatherings for the holidays.

Alma was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Lee Etta Perry; her brothers, Melvin, Marvin, James (Tommy), John (Buddy), and Harold; and her sisters, Pansy (Helen), Laura Mills, Juanita (Goodman), Geraldine, and Edna (McLean).

She leaves to mourn her passing her sister, Geraldine Reid of Tucson, AZ; her children, Christopher (Ray) Williams and family, Diane French and family, Sonya and Michael Thomas and son Quentin, Yvette Hart and family, Bruce Williams and family, and Phillip Williams and family; and a host of other relatives and friends.
