Alice Mae Chew Waller was born on August 2, 1939 in Caroline County, VA. The eldest of 9 children to the late Elvin and Birdie Chew. She transitioned peacefully at her home in Spotsylvania, VA on May 8, 2024 surrounded by her family.

Alice joined Beulah Baptist Church at an early age and attended John J. Wright for schooling. She worked at the University of Mary Washington for years doing food service, but her favorite most rewarding job was babysitting. She cared for so many children in the community, a good amount are in this room.

Sitting outside and listening to her radio was one of her favorite things to do. But if you called her at the right time, you probably would catch her fussing at the TV, while watching Family Feud. "Alice Mae", "Hassie", and "The Sheriff"; She was known by many names and many knew not to play.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Elvin and Birdie Chew, her husband: Lewis Waller, her daughter: Betsy Chew Smith, two brothers: Ed Chew and Joseph Chew, and two sisters: Florence Chew Chapman and Helen Fox. She leaves to cherish a daughter: Lois Waller (Clarence) of Spotsylvania, VA; four grandchildren: Ricky Chew of Pennsylvania, Jasmine Waller, Brandy Waller, and Brandon Waller, all of Spotsylvania, VA.; three great-grandchildren: Kiana Chew, Xavier Colbert and Willow Dias. One brother: Walter Chew (Kim) of Spotsylvania, VA, and three sisters: Bernice Harris of Spotsylvania, VA., Loretta Noel (Oliver) of Nashville, NC and Birdie Bundy (Kenny) of Spotsylvania, VA.

A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
