Obituary

Aldustus "Al" Dailey, Jr., was born on November 16,1952 in Norfolk, VA to (the late) Eunice Virginia Gould and Aldustus Dailey, Sr. He was raised and educated in Virginia Beach, VA, graduating from Frank W. Cox High School. As a child, he was known for his jovial attitude and kindness to others.

Al joined the Marines in July 1971, proudly serving his country for 20 years and retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1991. After a year, Al enjoyed a second career as a Police Officer at the Government Publishing Office, retiring in July of 2015 as a Lieutenant. He always loved learning new things and attended George Mason University from 1992-1994, adding to his list of accomplishments.

On August 21, 1998, Al married his sweetheart, Frances Geter. Together, they happily raised 7 wonderful children, creating a happy home for all.

Al enjoyed many hobbies but truly, he loved cooking! He enjoyed re-creating dishes found on the Internet, as well as making up some of his own. An undercover nerd, Al was a huge IT geek. You could always find him surrounded by his devices. He was a huge sports fan but LOVED football and boxing the best. Al was also a movie fanatic, most times watching while listening to music. Many may not know this, but Al was a fabulous DJ in his day. He was an eclectic connoisseur of music and could name that tune in ONE beat!

Al was known to be a loyal and direct man. He was an attentive and caring husband and a loving father and grandfather. As a friend, he was a great listener and confidante. He was very knowledgeable and worldly, and enjoyed gatherings with family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Frances, listening to music and chatting away, while he prepared one of his special dishes.

On Monday, December 16, 2024, at 1:10 pm at Stafford Hospital, Al was called home by our Lord. Though predeceased by one sister, Jessie Mae (Hazel) Brooks, he leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife Frances; his seven children, Joseph Novenario (Dillwyn, VA), Wendy Valadez (St. Charles, IL), Christian Novenario (Rio Hondo, Tx), Sonja Salerno (Rocky Point, NY), Damian Smith (Austin, TX), Derrick Smith (San Antonio, TX), Jami Geter (Frederick, MD): his three siblings: Constance (Vern) Dailey Hollands of Chesapeake VA, Stanley Ray Dailey of Coltin, CA, Kelvin Douglas Dailey of Virginia Beach, VA; his 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and his loving friends.

A memorial service will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 10:30 AM followed by the interment at Quantico National Cemetery at 1:00 PM. Click here to view the funeral service program.
